MRSAFPI MAKES MARK WITH 13 CADETS JOINING NDA & OTHER DEFENCE ACADEMIES IN JUST TWO MONTHS

Chandigarh, January 17:The Maharaja Ranjit Singh Armed Forces Preparatory Institute (MRSAFPI), SAS Nagar (Mohali) has set a new benchmark with 13 cadets joining the prestigious National Defence Academy (NDA) and other Defence training academies in just the past two months.
Disclosing this today, Punjab Employment Generation, Skill Development and Training Minister Mr. Aman Arora said that this feat brings the total number of cadets, who have joined the various Defence Training Academies since the Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann led Punjab Government came to power, to 66. These positive results are the testament of the state government towards fulfilling the aspirations of the youth who aspire to joint Defence Services.
He further informed that eight cadets include Armaanpreet Singh, Keshav Singla, Suryavardhan Singh, Fatehvir Singh, Suryansh Thakur, Bhavteveer Singh, Raghav Sharma & Sahil Sharma joined the NDA, Khadakwasla (Pune) for the NDA-153 Course. Aniket Sharma joined the Cadet’s Training Wing (CTW) at Mhow in Madhya Pradesh, while Manas Taneja joined the CTW at Secunderabad in Telangana for the Technical Entry Scheme (TES)-52 Course. Vasu Mehta joined the Air Force Academy (AFA), Dundigal for the 217 AFA Course. Jaskaran Singh (CTW of MRSAFPI) joined the 217 Course of the AFA, while Prashant Kumar (CTW of MRSAFPI) joined the 92 RVYO (Remount Veterinary Young Officer) Course at Remount Veterinary Corps Centre & College, Meerut.
Notably, Cadet Armaanpreet Singh stood first in the All India Merit List for the NDA-153 Course, while Keshav Singla secured All India Merit Rank 15 for the same course. The Cabinet Minister also congratulated these cadets on their career choice and wished them the best for their training and career ahead in Defence Services.
Major General Ajay H Chauhan, VSM, Director MRSAFPI said that there are five more cadets of the Institute who are awaiting joining letters for the course to commence in March 2025. In addition, the cadets of the 13th Course are undergoing their Services Selection Board (SSB) interviews.

Vigilance Bureau nabs PSPCL JE, Lineman taking Rs 5000 bribe as second instalment
Accused previously received Rs 5000 bribe through UPI
Chandigarh January 17, 2025 -The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing drive against corruption in the state, has apprehended Manjit Singh, Junior Engineer (J.E), and Harjeet Singh, Lineman, both posted at Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd (PSPCL) office Bhogpur in Jalandhar district red handed while accepting second instalment of bribe of Rs. 5000.
Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above mentioned accused have been arrested based on a complaint lodged by Sumeet Wadhwa, a resident of Sudarshan Park, Maksudan in Jalandhar.
He further informed that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that both the accused have been demanding a bribe of Rs 10000 for installing new electricity meter and replacing old meter at his residence. The complaint informed that the said Lineman had already taken Rs 5000 through UPI payment and demanding the remaining bribe money of Rs 5000.
The spokesperson added that after a preliminary enquiry on his complaint the VB team laid a trap during which the accused Lineman and J.E. were arrested while accepting the second instalment of bribe money from the complaint in presence of two official witnesses. In this regard a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against both the accused at VB police station Jalandhar range and further investigation into this case was under progress.

TRIALS OF PUNJAB CHESS TEAMS FOR ALL INDIA SERVICES CHESS TOURNAMENT ON 20th JANUARY
Chandigarh, January 17:Central Civil Services Cultural and Board are organising the All India Services Chess (Men and Women) tournament from 5th to 13th February 2025 in Goa. Trails for Punjab teams will be held on 20th January at Multipurpose Sports Stadium Mohali at 10.00 am.
The spokesman of the sports department further informed that in these trials security services personnel/para-security organizations/central police organizations/police/RPF/CISF/BSF/ITBP and NSG etc., autonomous parties/undertakings/public sector Banks including central ministry run banks, excluding casual/daily workers, temporary office workers, newly recruited employees who have been in regular services for less than 6 months, Government employees (regular), government officials (regular) of different departments can participate only after receiving NoC from their departments. The cost of travel, accommodation and food in this tournament will be paid by the player personally.

CHANDIGARH, January 17: Punjab Police on Monday organised a one-day workshop on nuances of provisions of Article 21 of the Indian Constitution with a special focus on rulings of various Hon’ble Courts, especially Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, regarding scope of this article. This article protects the right to life and personal liberty of individuals, which is an extremely important arcticle of the Indian Constitution.
Former Director of the National Judicial Academy and a Distinguished Legal Luminary Dr Balram Gupta, who delivered an enlightening keynote address, especially focused on expansion of scope of this article from 1951’s landmark case AK Gopalan vs State of Madras to 2017’s landmark case Justice KS Puttaswamy (Retd.) & Anr. vs. Union of India.
Notably, Dr. Balram K. Gupta is a distinguished legal luminary with a career spanning over 55 years. The latter began his journey as a Parliamentary Fellow at ICPS, New Delhi in 1968. He has held various prestigious positions, including Professor of Law and Chairman of the Department of Laws at Panjab University, Honorary Dean of the Faculty of Law at Guru Nanak Dev University, and Director of the National Judicial Academy, Bhopal. Dr Gupta has received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Rotary International in 2016.
Dr Gupta, accompanied by Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav and Special DGP Human Resource Development (HRD) and Welfare Ishwar Singh, addressed all the senior police officers, who participated enthusiastically in the workshop. Special DGP Community Affairs Division Gurpreet Kaur Deo, Special DGP Policy and Rules SK Asthana, Special DGP Railways Shashi Prabha Dwivedi also attended the workshop.
Dr Gupta's address emphasised the significance of upholding fundamental rights, particularly in the context of policing.
He emphasised that this article is extremely important as far as protection of life and personal liberties of individuals are concerned. Police has to discharge an important constitutional duty as far as upholding of rights of individuals as enshrined in constitution and other statues are concerned, he added.
Dr Gupta further engaged in thoughtful and incisive interactions that made the session both productive and impactful.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said that Punjab Police will continue to organise similar workshops and training programs to ensure that our officers are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to discharge their duties in a fair, impartial, and humane manner.

Industry Minister Sond issued strict instructions for Expedited Overhaul of Focal Points

Chandigarh, January 17:Punjab’s Minister for Industry, Commerce, and Investment Promotion, Tarunpreet Singh Sond, conducted a review meeting on Friday evening with senior officials from various departments linked to Invest Punjab. The meeting, held at Udyog Bhawan, lasted nearly three hours. During the session, Minister Sond issued strict instructions to the concerned departments to expedite the overhaul of focal points. He emphasized that the goal of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s government is to enhance industrial investment in Punjab. He stated that unless high-level facilities and amenities are provided to traders and industrialists in industrial areas and focal points, achieving targets would not be possible.
The minister stressed that all focal points in Punjab must be equipped with all necessary facilities at the earliest. He noted that many investors are showing interest in establishing new industries in Punjab but are facing challenges in obtaining approvals from certain departments. Sond directed that all departments must work in coordination to assist such investors in all processes from acquiring land to obtaining online approvals and setting up industries. He also instructed that if any issue arises at any level, it should be brought to his attention so that it can be resolved with the help of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
Highlighting the potential of Punjab, especially the scenic areas near Chandigarh, Minister Sond suggested that these regions could be developed for tourism. He also instructed officials to prepare a suitable plan for this purpose.
The primary objective of this meeting was to foster better coordination among various departments to ensure that industrialists face no hurdles in obtaining the necessary approvals. Senior officials from departments such as Industries, Invest Punjab, Rural Development and Panchayats, Tourism, and Cultural Affairs were present at the meeting.
The minister reiterated that Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s team is making every effort to transform Punjab into a “Rangla Punjab". He mentioned that several industrial houses are showing interest in investing in the state. However, certain issues related to land acquisition for new industries have come to light. He instructed officials to ensure that no industrialist faces any difficulties while investing in Punjab. He also emphasized maintaining seamless coordination among all relevant departments.
Minister Sond noted that new investments would boost the state’s economy and create new employment opportunities. Hence, it is essential to ensure a smooth and hassle-free process for approvals, from acquiring land to establishing industries. He warned that strict action would be taken against officials or employees who deliberately create hurdles in any project.
The meeting was attended by Chairman Dalbir Singh Dhillon, Tejveer Singh (Additional Chief Secretary, Industries Department), DPS Kharbanda (CEO, Invest Punjab), Dilraj Singh (Secretary, Rural Development and Panchayats Department), Parmjeet Singh (Director), and other senior officials from various departments.
