Chandigarh, 6 March: The Library of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, in collaboration with the Association of Senior Library and Information Professionals, organised a webinar on ‘Data Stewardship in Libraries’.
The resource person, Dr. Mohit Gupta, Assistant Librarian at IIT Delhi, delivered an engaging and insightful webinar on the emerging role of libraries in managing and preserving research data. During the session, participants gained a comprehensive understanding of the concept of data stewardship and its relevance to open science, research data management (RDM), and persistent identifiers (PIDs). Dr. Gupta elaborated on the importance of responsible data collection, documentation, storage, sharing, and preservation in accordance with the FAIR principles. He further highlighted the significance of Data Management Plans (DMPs), metadata standards, and institutional repositories in ensuring transparency, accessibility, and reproducibility in research. Participants were also introduced to Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) through platforms such as DataCite and Crossref, along with ORCID IDs, which play a crucial role in enhancing research visibility and ensuring accurate attribution of scholarly work.
Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma emphasised that in the contemporary research ecosystem, effective data stewardship is essential for promoting ethical research practices, transparency, and long-term preservation of knowledge. She further encouraged faculty members, librarians, and students to continuously update themselves with evolving digital tools and global best practices in scholarly communication.
