Chandigarh, 8 April: Celebrating the exceptional accomplishments of its students across academics, sports, and cultural arenas, Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women organised its Annual Prize Distribution Function with great enthusiasm and pride, awarding more than 380 prizes to its meritorious students.

The event was graced by Sh. Anurag Singh Thakur, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Government of India, as the Chief Guest. Sh. R. C. Jeewan, Member, DAV College Managing Committee, New Delhi, was the Guest of Honour on the occasion.

The function commenced with the traditional ceremonial lamp lighting, symbolising the triumph of knowledge and wisdom, followed by a mesmerising performance by the college’s award-winning Indian Orchestra team, which set an inspiring tone for the celebration.

The Officiating Principal, Ms. Neena Sharma, presented the Annual Report, highlighting the remarkable progress and achievements of the institution over the past academic year. She underscored the college’s steady growth under the visionary leadership of Dr. Punam Suri, Padma Shri, President, DAV College Managing Committee. She congratulated the prize winners for upholding the rich legacy of excellence that defines MCM and encouraged them to continue striving for higher goals.

At the beginning of his inspiring address, Sh. Anurag Singh Thakur proudly called himself a part of the DAV family. Visibly impressed by the students’ achievements in sports, Sh. Thakur asserted that the college has become a nurturing ground for sportswomen who are not just earning laurels for the college and the country, but are also leading as role models. Highlighting the Central government’s initiatives aimed at women empowerment, he called upon the students to commit themselves to the realisation of the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. He cited the increasingly important roles being played by women in multifarious sectors, and motivated young women to strive for academic excellence with strong ethical values and a spirit of nation-building. He urged the students to keep the doors of their minds open to learning, relearning, skilling and upskilling. Lauding the students for their dedication, perseverance, and outstanding achievements, he advised them to not rest on their laurels.

Sh. R. C. Jeewan commended the institution for its consistent pursuit of excellence and its commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals. He appreciated the efforts of the faculty and management in creating an environment conducive to academic and co-curricular success.

To honour and motivate the meritorious students, cash prizes, trophies, college colours, and special awards were conferred. In the academic category, university position holders across various disciplines were felicitated by the dignitaries. Outstanding performers in Zonal, Inter-Zonal, and Inter-University Youth and Heritage Festivals, along with top NCC (Army and Naval wings) cadets, NSS volunteers, Student Council members, Best Library Readers, and Best Article Writers for the college magazine were recognised in the cultural category. In the sports category, international medalists, All India Inter-University achievers, and Panjab University championship winners were honoured for their exemplary performances, reflecting the college’s strong sporting tradition.
