Chandigarh, April 08 – Haryana Labour Minister Sh. Anil Vij said that the state government has given a major gift to workers by increasing the rates of minimum wages, which will come into effect from April 1, 2026. He informed that approval in this regard was given in the Cabinet meeting held today.

Haryana first state to increase minimum wages after implementation of four new labour codes – Vij

Giving further details, Sh. Vij said that Haryana is the first state which, under the leadership of Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi and following the historic and visionary decision of implementing four new labour codes—(the Code on Wages, 2019; the Industrial Relations Code, 2020; the Social Security Code, 2020; and the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020)—has significantly increased minimum wages for workers in the state.

Minimum wage rates increased by around 35% – Vij

He said that this historic decision will benefit lakhs of workers in the state. He informed that the wages of unskilled workers have been increased from ₹11,274.60 to ₹15,220, reflecting an increase of about ₹3,945.40, which is approximately 35 percent. Similarly, the wages of semi-skilled workers have been increased from ₹12,430.18 to ₹16,780.74, showing an increase of ₹4,350.56, also around 35 percent.

Sh. Vij further said that the wages of skilled workers have been increased from ₹13,704.31 to ₹18,500.81, marking an increase of ₹4,796.50 (around 35%). Likewise, the wages of highly skilled workers have been increased from ₹14,389.52 to ₹19,425.85, reflecting an increase of ₹5,036.33, also approximately 35 percent.

He said that the four new labour codes—the Code on Wages, 2019; the Industrial Relations Code, 2020; the Social Security Code, 2020; and the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020—were implemented on November 21, 2025. With their implementation, 29 old and fragmented labour laws in the country have been simplified and rationally consolidated.

He further said that this decision reflects the state government’s sensitivity and commitment towards the welfare of workers. Under the able leadership of Sh. Vij, the Labour Department has consistently taken pro-people initiatives, ensuring economic security and social dignity for the working class. He said that this notable increase in workers’ income will not only improve their standard of living but also give a new impetus to the state’s economy.

Sh. Vij also said that his priority has always been to safeguard the interests of workers and provide them with better working conditions. He assured that similar concrete and effective decisions in the interest of workers will continue to be taken in the future.
