MC Commissioner cracks down on Dadumajra waste site, Orders swift clearance and flags lapses at processing plant
Chandigarh, May 5:- Reinforcing its commitment to scientific waste management, Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, conducted a comprehensive inspection of the Dadumajra dumping ground and directed officials to ensure expeditious bio-mining and clearance of legacy waste without any delay.
Accompanied by MC Chief Engineer Sh. Sanjay Arora, Officer-in-Charge(SWM) and other concerned officers, the Commissioner reviewed ongoing operations, assessed processing efficiency, and interacted with field staff. Expressing serious concern over the environmental impact on nearby residents, he emphasized that delays will not be tolerated and directed the engineering wing to adopt a mission-mode approach with round-the-clock operations, enhanced machinery deployment, and optimum manpower.
The Commissioner further ordered OI/SW that daily monitoring of progress, regular reporting, and strict adherence to scientific and environmentally compliant practices shall be ensured.
In addition, the Chief Engineer conducted an inspection of the Dry Waste Processing Plant, where several critical deficiencies were observed. It was noted that weighbridge records were not being properly maintained as per the approved norms, raising concerns over accountability of incoming waste. A significant accumulation of cloth and other dry waste indicated inadequate processing relative to the volume received.
Further, records pertaining to Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF) testing and inert material were found to be incomplete, constituting a violation of prescribed standards. Taking serious note, the Executive Engineer (SWM) has been directed to ensure strict compliance with contractual provisions and to examine the matter for appropriate penal action against the agency.
The Commissioner underscored that such lapses reflect poor operational management and require immediate corrective measures. Directions have been issued for time-bound compliance, with an Action Taken Report to be submitted within one week.
