Chandigarh, 23nd May: The Annual General Meeting of Chandigarh Beopar Mandal (Regd.) was held yesterday in a gala function at Hotel Park View, Sector-24, Chandigarh. More than 200 prominent trader members of Chandigarh, representing various markets across the city, participated with great enthusiasm.

The function commenced with the traditional Traders’ Prayer. Six new trade associations were formally inducted as members of CBM and certificates were presented to them. With this, the total strength of this apex body of traders becomes 382.

A special felicitation was also held for Sh. Parth Gupta, grandson of Sh. Gian Chand Gupta, former Speaker, Haryana Vidhan Sabha, and member if CBM from founder days for becoming the youngest Councillor of Panchkula Municipal Corporation.

In his Presidential Address, Sh. Sanjiv Chadha, President, CBM, complimented all members for the great success of the celebration of Founders Day last month in memory of Late Inder Lal Batra, the Founder President of CBM, in which Hon’ble Governor Punjab cum Administrator UT, Sh. Gulab Chand Kataria was Chief Guest and Sh. Sunil J Singhi, Chairman, National Traders Welfare Board was Guest of Honour.

The President also mentioned how many local traders’ issues had been sorted out by timely intervention of Chandigarh Beopar Mandal. He said that on request of CBM the central Govt declared huge relief measures under Food Safety Act recently and same was announced by Sunil J. Singhi during Founders day function

CBM is hopeful that some need-based changes in building bye-laws and rationalisation of penalty rates are on the anvil.

He further received a standing ovation when it was announced that CBM President has been conferred with the State Award as well as the Red Cross Award for CBM’s excellent contribution towards social responsibility. He also appealed to Presidents of various markets to invite CBM for redressal of their local market issues on the spot by even calling officers of Municipal Corporation and Administration along with the CBM team, so that all markets are uplifted and beautified.

Addressing the gathering, Sh. Gian Chand Gupta Ji reminisced about the initial days of Chandigarh Beopar Mandal when he had joined as a member, and reaffirmed his continued association with CBM.

Sh. Mohit Sood, Vice President CBM & Chairperson, GST Sub-Committee, highlighted CBM’s pending demands regarding GST laws and apprised members about repercussions faced by traders due to defaulting dealers.

Sh. Diwakar Sahoonja, Vice Chairman cum Official Spokesperson, CBM, spoke about the two new legislations being adopted by Chandigarh Administration – Haryana Fire & Emergency Services Act, 2022 and Assam Tenancy Act, 2021 – and explained their adverse impact on Chandigarh’s trade. He called for united opposition by all market associations.

Sh. Baljinder Gujral informed members how, on the request of Chandigarh Beopar Mandal, the work of re-carpeting and leveling of roads was immediately taken up by the authorities.

The proceedings of the event were conducted by Sh. Sunil Gupta, General Secretary, CBM.

The vote of thanks was rendered by Sh. Charanjiv Singh, Chairman, Chandigarh Beopar Mandal, who emphasized unity amongst the traders and called for more and more participation by members in the working of Chandigarh Beopar Mandal.
