Chandigarh, August 1:- Municipal Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS today visited the Daddu Majra Dumping Ground to review the progress of plantation and inspect the ongoing development works at the reclaimed site.

The inspection was attended by Special Commissioner Sh. Harpreet Singh Sudan, IAS, Chief Engineer Sh. Sanjay Arora, and other concerned officers of the Municipal Corporation.

During the visit, the Commissioner inspected the plantation area and reviewed the growth and health of the saplings planted during the recent plantation drive. He directed the concerned officials to regularly monitor the plants, ensure proper maintenance.

The Commissioner also reviewed the work started on the approximately 21,000ft. cinder track being developed at the reclaimed site. He instructed the Engineering Wing to complete the work within the stipulated time while maintaining quality standards.

To ensure proper care of the plantation, the Commissioner inspected the Tertiary Treated (TT) water supply system. He directed the officials to maintain adequate water pressure and ensure a regular supply of treated water so that all plants receive sufficient irrigation for their healthy growth.

The Commissioner further inspected the leachate management system at the dumping ground and instructed the concerned officers to ensure proper collection, treatment and disposal of leachate wastewater in accordance with environmental norms. He said the system should be monitored regularly to avoid any environmental pollution.

Speaking during the visit, the Commissioner said the MC Chandigarh is committed to developing the reclaimed dumping ground into a clean, green and environmentally sustainable public space. He emphasized that regular monitoring of the plantation, timely completion of development works and proper environmental management will help transform the site into a valuable green asset for the city.
