Chief Secretary Chairs 27th Meeting of Chandigarh Heritage Conservation Committee

Chandigarh, August 7:The 27th meeting of the Chandigarh Heritage Conservation Committee (CHCC) was held today under the chairmanship of Shri H. Rajesh Prasad, IAS, Chief Secretary, U.T. Chandigarh, to consider key proposals relating to the conservation of Chandigarh’s architectural heritage and preservation of its UNESCO World Heritage values.

Among those present were Shri Mandip Singh Brar, IAS, Home Secretary; Shri Diprava Lakra, IAS, Finance Secretary; Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, IAS, Secretary, Tourism & Culture; Shri Amit Kumar, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh; Shri Nishant Kumar Yadav, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, U.T. Punjab State & Chandigarh (UT) Human Rights Commission Holds Interactive Open Hearing at Sector 43 Community Centre

Chandigarh, August 7:The Punjab State & Chandigarh (UT) Human Rights Commission today organised an interactive meeting-cum-open hearing at the Community Centre, Sector 43, Chandigarh under the leadership of Hon’ble Member Padma Shri Jitender Singh Shunty.

During the meeting, Core Group Members and residents raised issues related to human rights, civic amenities, healthcare, education, public welfare and service delivery, besides offering suggestions for improving governance.

Shri Jitender Singh Shunty assured participants that the Commission is committed to protecting human rights and ensuring prompt redressal of genuine grievances. He stressed the need for active public participation and close coordination between citizens and government departments.

The meeting was attended by officers of the Punjab State & Chandigarh (UT) Human Rights Commission and senior officers of the Chandigarh Administration, who addressed issues relating to their respective departments. The Commission reiterated that such outreach programmes will continue to promote public awareness, citizen participation and the protection of human rights.

Political Parties Briefed on SIR Progress; ERO Reviews Document Verification Process

Chandigarh, August 7, 2026:A meeting with representatives of recognized political parties was convened today by the Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), U.T. Chandigarh, to brief them on the progress of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the Electoral Roll.

During the meeting, the representatives were apprised of the status of processing of claims and objections, progress of document verification and the measures being undertaken to ensure a transparent, accurate and inclusive revision of the electoral roll. They were also informed that Special Camps will be organised at all polling stations across U.T. Chandigarh on 8 and 9 August 2026, where Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will facilitate electors in submitting applications for inclusion, correction, shifting, deletion of names and other electoral services.

In compliance with the instructions of the Election Commission of India, the Lists of Form 9, Form 10, Form 11 and Form 11A, pertaining to claims and objections received during the ongoing SIR, were handed over to the representatives of the political parties to ensure transparency in the electoral process. The representatives were requested to disseminate the information among electors and encourage all eligible citizens to visit their respective polling stations during the Special Camps and avail the electoral services.

Earlier in the day, Shri Amandeep Singh Bhatti, PCS, Electoral Registration Officer, U.T. Chandigarh, visited the Document Centre to review the status of document verification and the operational procedures being followed for verification of supporting documents submitted by electors.

During the visit, the ERO reviewed the progress of document verification, interacted with the verification teams to assess the workflow, discussed the challenges being faced during the verification process and issued necessary directions to ensure timely, accurate and transparent verification of documents in accordance with the instructions of the Election Commission of India.

The ERO emphasized the importance of maintaining efficiency, consistency and quality in the verification process so that all eligible electors are facilitated and the Special Intensive Revision is completed within the prescribed timelines.
