Upcoming Youth Conference to Focus on Waste Segregation, Sustainability and Civic Responsibility

Chandigarh, October 9:- Students of NMIMS University today met Mayor of Chandigarh, Sh. Saurabh Joshi, to discuss the upcoming Youth Conference, with a special focus on waste segregation, sustainable waste management and the transformative role of young people in building a cleaner and greener Chandigarh.

During the interaction, the students exchanged ideas on promoting waste segregation at source, ensuring responsible waste disposal and encouraging sustainable practices among citizens. The discussion also explored how young minds can contribute innovative solutions, create environmental awareness and actively participate in civic initiatives.

Emphasising the importance of youth participation in urban development, Mayor Saurabh Joshi said that young people have the energy, creativity and commitment to bring meaningful change to society. He encouraged students to become ambassadors of cleanliness and environmental responsibility by adopting sustainable habits in their daily lives and inspiring others to follow suit.

The Mayor highlighted that waste management is not merely the responsibility of civic authorities but a shared responsibility of every citizen. Active public participation, particularly from students and youth, is essential to strengthening cleanliness initiatives and making Chandigarh a more sustainable city.

Commissioner reviews development works and civic infrastructure at Transport Nagar, Sector 26

Focus on infrastructure improvement, better civic amenities and addressing traders’ concerns

Chandigarh, October 9:- Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today visited Transport Nagar, Sector 26, Chandigarh, to review the progress of ongoing works and assess the status of civic infrastructure and facilities in the area. He was accompanied by MC Chief Engineer Sh. Sanjay Arora and office bearers of the Transport Nagar Association.

During the visit, the Commissioner planted saplings of ornamental tree and took stock of the ground situation and reviewed the progress of development works, with a focus on improving civic infrastructure and ensuring better facilities for transport operators, traders and other stakeholders. He also interacted with the association office bearers to understand their concerns and obtain feedback on issues requiring the attention of the Municipal Corporation.

The Commissioner emphasised the importance of timely execution of development works, maintenance of civic infrastructure and coordinated efforts to address local issues. He stressed that field visits are essential for assessing ground realities, monitoring progress and ensuring that development initiatives translate into tangible improvements for citizens and commercial establishments.
