PANA JI(GOA),20.11.17-48th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) has begun at Goa's capital Panaji. Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan inaugurated the festival at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium in Bambolim Monday evening.

    Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani was present at the inaugural function. Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan will be honoured with personality of the year award at the festival.

    Indian International Film Festival 2017 is unique on so many counts this year. As per the official programme released, the festival will be presenting 195 films from over 82 countries of which there will be 10 World Premieres, 10 Asian and International premieres and over 64 Indian premieres.

    The Festival will open with the much talked about new feature, "Beyond The Clouds" from acclaimed filmmaker Majid Majidi and close with the World premiere of the Indo Argentinian Co-production "Thinking of Film" directed by Pablo Cesar.

    The International Competition section of IFFI 2017 carries a cumulative cash prize of over Rs. One crore and will showcase 15 of the finest films of this year, competing for the Golden and Silver Peacock awards.

    The International Competition jury will be headed by renowned filmmaker Muzaffar Ali.

    Special screenings will be held for goan films including Mahaparayan & Tiffin Box. The non-feature section has 16 films this time around. The first feature film to be screened as part of the Indian panorama is Pihu. IFFI is India's biggest and Asia's oldest film festival. The first festival had been organised by the films dIvision in 1952.
