Chandigarh,15.01.18-Glowing tributes to the luminary Justice Mehr Chand Mahajan and spiritual fervour marked the beginning of the year-long Golden Jubilee Celebrations of MCM DAV College for Women here today. The celebrations of completion of 50 glorious years began on an auspicious note with 51 KundiyMahayagya to seek divine blessings for illumining the future path of MCM. Mr.H.R.Gandhar, (Senior Governing Body Member, DAV College Managing Committee, New Delhi) and Mrs.SudeshGandhargraced the mahayagya with their presence as the Chief Guest. Special Guests on the occasion were Mr.R.K.Popli, Director Higher Education, Chandigarh and Prof.Dalip Kumar, ASPD, RUSA. Yagya Brahma Mahatma Chaitanya Swami and MaaSatyapriyaYati performed the havan and Swamiji also blessed the staff and students with his enlightening address in which he gave the message of selfless service to humanity. A pioneer in many fields, MCM spearheaded the cause of sustainable development through green energy by setting up a RUSA sponsored Biogas Plant  that is one-of-its-kind in Chandigarh's educational institutions. On this occasion, Mr.R.K.Popli and Prof.Dalip Kumar inaugurated the plant. 

 The spiritually elevating ritual of Havan was followed by Inaugural Function of the Golden Jubilee Celebrations. Organised as a mark of veneration for Justice Mehr Chand Mahajan in whose memory MCM DAV was established in 1968, the Inaugural Function was graced by Prof.Arun Kumar Grover, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University as the Chief Guest and by Mr.H.R.Gandhar as the Guest of Honour. Mr.R.K.Popli, Prof. Neera Grover, Department of Music, PU and Senior Syndicate members, PU partook in the celebrations as Special Guests. In her inaugural address, Principal Dr.NishaBhargava referred to MCM DAV as the organic and living tribute to Justice Mehr Chand Mahajan and chronicled the achievements of the past 50 years that have earned MCM the prestigious status of one of the country's premier institution. Congratulating MCM fraternity for the landmark 50 years, Prof Arun Kumar Grover stressed that in order to evolve as a world-class institution, MCM should foresee the challenges that future holds and prepare accordingly to meet them. He also highlighted the immensely vital contributions of Justice Mehr Chand Mahajan in the field of education that are indelibly etched in our memories. Shedding light on the awe-inspiring life and enigmatic personality of Justice Mehr Chand, Mr.H.R.Gandhar pointed out his instrumental role in the accession of Kashmir to India and exemplary contribution to AryaSamaj. Referring to Justice Mehr Chand as a paragon of virtues, Mr.Gandhar added that he loved and lived for humanity. The IQAC Newsletter of the college was also released by the dignitaries present on this occasion. The brand ambassadors of MCM- the alumnae who have carved a niche for themselves in various fields were also honoured during the function. Basking in the love and affection of their alma mater, the alumnae shared their heart-warming experiences of years spent at MCM. Nostalgia filled the air as the retired faculty members recounted their fulfilling association with MCM and shared endearing anecdotes from their lives at MCM in their memoirs. A cultural presentation that included the Youth Festival prize winning performances of MCM left the audience spellbound. 

Principal Dr.NishaBhargava said that the completion of 50 remarkable years is a matter of great pride for everyone associated with MCM. She said that MCM is an invincible force blending tradition and modernity, creating and recreating its' own benchmarks and stressed upon the fact that MCM continues to explore new vistas of growth and learning with renewed zeal and determination to carry forward the inimitable legacy of excellence.
