Chandigarh,18.01.19-The second day of the 72nd Annual Conference of the Indian Radiological and Imaging Association (IRIA) organized by the Chandigarh Chapter of the IRIA in collaboration with the Department of Radiodiagnosis, PGIMER, Chandigarh, was attended by more than 2000 delegates from across the country. The day started with the IRIA Awards and Orations session. The Orator of Sir JC Bose Oration delivered his innovative work on the role of MRI in demonstrating the “musical” neural network in brain. He showed how different types of music have different responses in brain by using a novel MRI technique called functional MRI. In another session, a speaker from the USA stressed the increasing role of radiologists in the drug and device development. He said that the radiologists have a key role to play in the conduct of drug trials. Another highlight of the day was the increased participation of Radiologists in the Social cause. The details of the Raskha Program (Radiologist for the girl child) were shared by the national coordinator of this project Dr. Sona Pungavkarl from Mumbai. The various activities conducted for the upliftment of the girl child by the National team and the State Chapters were highlighted. The day concluded with at least 40 alumni of the Institute meeting together and sharing their past and present experiences. It was a nostalgic moment for most of the alumni. An entire session was held on the imaging in cancer patients. This session, by experts from various parts of the country, highlighted the latest cutting edge technologies for accurate imaging in this group of patients. Upcoming technologies like “nano-imaging” and advancements in PET-CT were discussed.
