Chandigarh,17.06.19-Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) had informed the office of Director PGIMER that the ARD will stage a protest on 17.06.2019 by going on strike but emergency and critical care areas like ICUs will be exempted from the strike. Director, PGIMER called a meeting of Heads of Departments on 16.06.2019 at 8.00 AM to discuss the issue and prepare a contingency plan. Accordingly, a contingency plan was drafted and was distributed to all Heads of Departments on 16.06.2019 itself.

Even though the emergency and critical areas were exempted, yet a contingency plan was devised to ensure functioning of whole of the Institute to the maximum extent possible. The Out-Patient Department (OPD) services were curtailed by reducing the registration timings by two hours. The IPD, OPD and Diagnostic services were run by faculty, sponsored residents, foreign national residents & technical staff. Three thousand five hundred & ninety six (3596) patients were registered in the OPD on 17.06.2019 while 23 (twenty three) surgeries were performed till 5.00 PM All the emergency services including Labour Room services and Intensive Care Units functioned in a routine manner as these services were exempted from the strike.
