CHANDIGARH,18.01.20-Chandigarh Traffic Police observed ‘31st National Road Safety Week 2020’ with theme “Bringing Change through youth power” from 11th Jan to 17th Jan 2020. Today on concluding day many events & programme were organized as a part of Road Safety Week to aware/sensitize general public on road safety:-

  1. A Multi Speciality Free Health Checkup and Blood Donation camp was organized by Chandigarh Traffic Police in Police Hospital, Sec.26, Chandigarh. This activity was organized mainly for Drivers of CTU, PRTC, Haryana & Punjab Roadways Buses, Truck Drivers, Ola, Uber and Auto Drivers, and Chandigarh police personnel. This initiative was taken by Sh. Shashank Anad, IPS, SSP/Security & Traffic This camp was organized by Ms. Harjeet Kaur, DSP/Traffic and her team and Dr. Pushpinder Mangat, SMO I/c Police Hospital, Sec.26, Chandigarh and her team with the collaboration of Blood Bank PGI, Chandigarh, GMSH-16, Chandigarh, Paras Hospital and Grewal Eye Hospital. Interactive lecture was delivered by Dr. Sanjay Khanna, MS, ENT from Paras Hospital. Dr. Gagandip Singh, MD, DM (PGI) from Paras Hospital delivered a lecture on Cardiology (Heart Disease and Prevention). The camp was attended by Dr. Pushpinder Mangat, SMO, Police Hospital, Sec.26, Chandigarh, DSP/Lines, Insp. Neeraj Sarna, all Medical Officers, Para Medical Staff of Police Hospital. Total 232 patients availed of the medical facility and 61 police personnel donated blood for road accident victims. HIV, HB, RPR, HbsAG lab tests were carried out. Mementos were presented to the all doctors of Paras Hospital by Chief Guest Sh. Shashank Anand, IPS, SSP Security and Traffic, UT., Chandigarh.
  2. Today, Chandigarh Traffic Police organized a drive to affixing reflective tapes on Cycles, Rickshaws/Rehri and distributing jackets & hand gloves at Major intersections like Grain Market Chowk, Chandigarh etc. During drive about 700 reflectors were affixed, 150 hand gloves and 250 safety reflective jackets were distributed to the cyclists and Rickshaw/Rehri pullers and they were also aware about the road safety and use of cycle tracks. Sh Shashank Anand IPS, SSP/Traffic & Security along with staff distributed the jackets, hand gloves and affixed reflective tapes on cycles/rickshaws etc.
  3. Today, Chandigarh Traffic Police organized a Declamation Contest in Auditorium of Government College, Sector-42, Chandigarh followed by a Road Safety song by school children and skit by Traffic Marshals. Declamation Contest was organized on the theme that “Do high penalties of traffic violations, act as deterrent enough” as part of 31st National Road Safety Week-2020 being observed from 11th to 17th Jan 2020. Total 21 students of schools and 26 students of colleges spoke in favor and against motion. About 400 students of various schools, colleges, Traffic Marshals and Senior Officers of Chandigarh Police attended the function. Sh. Vinod P. Kavle, Special Secretary Home, Chandigarh Administration invited as Chief Guest at the function, who gave away the winner trophies and certificates.
  4. Also, a Painting Competition of 100 Anganwari children organized in Bapu Dham Colony, Sector-26, Chandigarh under Urjja Project of Chandigarh Police as part of Road Safety Week-2020. Sh. Shashank Anand, IPS W/SSP/Security & Traffic, UT, Chandigarh gave away the prizes to winners and participation certificates to the children.
