Chandigarh,18.03.17-Chandigarh Senior Citizens’ Association, which runs two training centres (one each in Sectors 15 and 18) and has been conducting Yoga events for its members for the last several years, held a Yoga competition on Saturday,  18th March at Radha Krishan Mandir, Sector 18.

A total of over 60 persons participated. The results are as under:

There were a total of 10 asanas to be performed – five compulsory and five (out of 10) optional. Persons with joint disabilities were given a relaxation in that they could perform modified (or saral) versions including chair versions. For persons above 90, all asanas were optional: they were required to pick any 5 asanas of their choice.

Speaking on the sidelines of the event Sh IP Puri, President of the Association, said that the aim of organizing sports events “is to get older persons out of inactivity mode and to get them to meet their peers in a tension free environment. Yoga in particular, he said, is ideal for all age groups – even those suffering from certain infirmities. Such persons are, however, advised to consult their doctor on what exercises they may safely perform”.
