CHANDIGARH,16.03.23-Dr. Parminder Singh Otaal, is working as a Professor in the Department of Cardiology, Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh. He joined PGIMER as a Faculty in 2008. Recently, Dr Parminder Singh Otaal returned after successfully completing his Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) fellowship at Liverpool Heart and chest Hospital, Liverpool, England.
TAVI is a minimally invasive procedure used to replace a diseased valve with a new one without open-heart surgery. Dr. Otaal worked under the guidance of TAVI team lead by Dr Appleby Clare, a world-renowned specialist in TAVI procedures. During his fellowship, Dr. Otaal gained an in-depth understanding of the latest techniques and technologies involved in performing TAVI procedures.
"I feel incredibly fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with such an experienced and knowledgeable team at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital," said Dr. Parminder Otaal. "Throughout my fellowship, I have learned so much about how to provide the best possible care for patients undergoing TAVI procedures."

"TAVI is a rapidly evolving field, and it is essential that doctors stay up-to-date with the latest advancements to ensure the best possible outcomes for patients," said Prof. Otaal. I am thankful to my Institute director, Professor (Dr ) Vivek Lal and ex director Professor (Dr) Jagat Ram, and departmental faculty for supporting me to avail this opportunity and achieve the best possible hands-on exposure to this complex procedure.”
TAVI procedures are becoming increasingly prevalent in the treatment of aortic stenosis, a condition where the valve in the heart's main artery becomes narrowed, causing various symptoms, including chest pain, shortness of breath, and dizziness. The minimally invasive nature of TAVI makes it a safer and more comfortable procedure for patients, reducing the need for open-heart surgery and lengthy recovery times.
Liverpool Heart Hospital is one of the leaders in TAVI procedures in UK, having performed over 1,300 successful cases to date.
Dr. Otaal’s completion of the TAVI fellowship program will facilitate treatment of needy patients at PGI and strengthening of services in cardiovascular health care.
