CHANDIGARH, 22.04.25-The Department of Home Science at Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, organised a 2-day bakery and patisserie art workshop- ‘Cakes and Crumble’. Alumna Ms. Alisha Gupta, Bakery expert and Founder of Bakecstasy was the resource person. The aim of the workshop was to equip the participants with experience in basic and advanced baking techniques, thereby empowering them to explore entrepreneurship in bakery as a career path.

The sessions of the workshop were designed to offer hands-on experience in creating a variety of bakery products like apple pie, cheese cakes, and cakes with strawberry compote, blueberry compote, chocolate ganache, fondant, etc. The attendees were educated about various important aspects of bakery including ingredient selection, measurements, and baking tools. An overview of essential baking techniques and equipments, different types of flour, leavening agents, and flavourings was provided to the participants. Mixing, baking, and decorating cakes by frosting and garnishing, along with tips for professional presentation were demonstrated during the workshop. The workshop witnessed enthusiastic response as 62 students registered for it. The participants found the workshop highly effective as the hands-on approach allowed them to experiment and gain skills in baking.

Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma applauded the Home Science Department for aligning the workshop with the vision of NEP 2020 to priorities skill development by integration of vocational education with mainstream education. She said that the college is empowering its students through various programmes focusing on skill development and enhancement.
