CHANDIGARH, 23.04.25-The Sustainable Practices Committee of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, organised the 4th edition of ‘Hamare Apne’- a visit to Senior Citizen Home, Sector 15, Chandigarh. With the aim to connect with the elderly by spending quality time with them, faculty and students visited the Home, and held meaningful interaction with them. To begin with, the students involved all the elderly participants in the game of Pass the Parcel. As part of the game, the inmates got to enjoy a live song of their choice played on the guitar or answer a light-hearted question posed by the students. This was followed by a game of Tambola, which the elderly were extremely enthusiastic to play. They participated wholeheartedly, and the winners were awarded handmade flower bouquets as tokens of appreciation. The elders also participated enthusiastically by singing their favourite songs, reciting pieces of poetry, and shared light hearted moments of their experiences. After the games, the group distributed refreshments, and gifted the elderly with practical and sustainable items like steel plates and spoons, along with handmade cards filled with warm wishes. The students spent quality time engaging with the elderly- talking, laughing, playing games, dancing, and singing for them. In return, the elderly shared heartfelt advice, encouraging the students to live their lives on their own terms and wishing them success in their future endeavours. The students left with hearts full of gratitude, joy, humility, and deep respect and understanding for their elderly.

Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma said that this initiative of the Sustainable Practices Committee is a beautiful reminder of the importance of compassion, inter-generational connection, and community involvement. She added that it reflects the college’s commitment to holistic education and social responsibility.
