Chandigarh, August 27, 2024: Sanjay Tandon, a national executive member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and co-incharge of the Himachal Pradesh BJP, attended the Victory Against Drug Abuse (VADA) program at DAV College in Sector 10 as the chief guest. The event was held as part of the drug-free India campaign and was also attended by the college principal, Rita Jain.
The program commenced with Tandon lighting a lamp to mark the beginning of the event. Various presentations highlighted the detrimental effects of drug abuse, educating attendees about its severe consequences. At the conclusion of the program, Tandon honored the winners for their contributions.
Addressing the audience, Tandon expressed his concern about the alarming increase in drug addiction among the youth. He emphasized that this growing issue is deeply troubling and has led to the destruction of countless families. The frequent news reports from Punjab about young lives being lost due to drugs further underline the gravity of the situation. Tandon stressed that we all share responsibility for this crisis. In today’s fast-paced world, parents often overlook their children’s needs until problems arise. The lack of time often leaves children feeling isolated, creating an opportunity for drug dealers to exploit them. These dealers introduce addiction and then use these individuals to further their drug sales.
Tandon urged the need for greater awareness about the horrific impact of drug abuse. Parents should engage with their children regularly, listen to their concerns, and encourage them to steer clear of drugs. Creating a culture of awareness and proactive involvement is essential to protect our youth from falling into the trap of addiction. He praised the efforts of those conducting awareness programs and called on other organizations to organize similar outreach initiatives and launch special drives to help those struggling with addiction.
