CHANDIGARH,16.10.24-The Disaster Management Committee, NSS units and NCC (Army and Navy Wings) of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, under the aegis of IQAC, organised a Mock Drill on Fire Fighting and Safety. The drill aimed to sensitise the various stakeholders about the necessary steps to be taken during a fire outbreak and to equip them with skill to handle different types of fire extinguishers.

The drill was conducted by Sub Fire Officer Satpal Singh, Fire man Shantnu Rana, Fire man Manpreet Singh, Fire man Ramandeep Singh and Anil Kumar from Fire Station, Sector 38, Chandigarh. Sub Fire Officer Satpal Singh and Fire man Shantnu Rana demonstrated the correct techniques for using fire extinguishers during an emergency. The participants were educated about the dos and don’ts of the fire safety norms, types of fire hazard and ways to control fire outbreak by using different types of fire extinguishers. They also demonstrated and allowed the participants to have hands-on experience with using extinguishers. Over 150 participants, including staff and students, benefitted from the information shared during the drill.
Principal Dr Nisha Bhargava lauded the efforts of the organisers in empowering various stakeholders with knowledge about handling of different fire hazards. Highlighting the fact that fires not only destroy property but also cause injuries and cost lives, she added that proper training in basic fire-fighting techniques is imperative to eliminate fire hazards and respond quickly and efficiently.
