CHANDIGARH, 09.11.24-Adding another feather to the cap of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, Dr. Jasmine Anand, an Assistant Professor of English at the college, has been selected as an Associate Researcher under the prestigious IUC-UGC program of the Indian Institute of Advanced Studies (IIAS), Shimla, for the term 2024-2026. She is the only researcher selected for this session representing Panjab University, Chandigarh, at the Institute. Dr. Anand’s research focus during her first stint at the Institute in October 2024 was centered on the work of the renowned Punjabi author Bhai Vir Singh. Her scholarly exploration of his literary contributions underscores her dedication to preserving and advancing regional literature. In addition to her research, Dr. Anand actively participated in the intellectual vibrancy of the Institute by chairing an academic session and engaging in a variety of other scholarly programs held during her stay. With 14 years of experience in higher education, Dr. Anand’s multifaceted role encompasses teaching, curriculum design, research, the development of self-learning materials for universities, preparation of MOOCs lectures, podcast 'Literary Shorts' and soft skills training. She serves as an elected member of the Academic Council and the Board of Studies (UG and PG English) at Panjab University, Chandigarh. Dr. Anand credited her Professors at the Department of English and Cultural Studies at Panjab University, her colleagues, and Principal Dr. Nisha Bhargava for their unwavering support. She also mentioned how the IIAS offers researchers a conducive environment for focused study.
The current Principal Mrs. Suman Mahajan, congratulated Dr. Jasmine for her dedicated efforts in literary research. She added that this recognition not only highlights Dr. Anand’s individual achievements but also underscores the collective intellectual spirit of the college, which fosters an environment that nurtures academic excellence and societal impact. She further informed that the college also houses a research center for English, which is officially approved by the University.
