SHIMLA, 24th December, 2024-Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh while addressing the media here today, stated that approximately 350 roads in the state were blocked due to the snowfall on 23rd December, 2024. To restore these roads, the Public Works Department has deployed a total of 268 machines, including 70 JCBs, 13 robos, 13 bulldozers, 76 tippers and 96 other machines at various locations. The department is ensuring that all necessary resources are utilized to reopen the roads as soon as possible.

He further informed that 235 roads have been reopened today and an additional 80 to 85 roads are expected to be restored by December 25. The remaining roads will be made operational for traffic within 2-3 days.

The Minister mentioned that Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu is committed to making Himachal Pradesh a premier tourist destination. Following the recent snowfall, thousands of tourists from across the country and abroad are visiting the state. The Public Works Department is working diligently to ensure they face no inconvenience due to the snowfall.

Vikramaditya Singh also stated that he held a virtual meeting with department officers today, directing them to expedite the restoration and repair of roads and remain fully prepared in the coming days.

The Minister highlighted that under the Central Road Fund (CRF), Rs. 110 crore was allocated for various projects for the financial year 2024-25. However, an additional Rs. 50 crore is needed to complete these projects. He assured that he would request Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari to ensure there are no obstacles in completing these works.
