Ludhiana 09 January 2025-Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana has secured a prestigious project worth Rs. 91 lakhs “A multi-omics approach for pig production” under the National Livestock Mission (NLM) scheme. An interdisciplinary team of faculty members of vet varsity will work on this project which comes under the Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying (DAHD), Government of India. The project focuses on exploring nutritional interventions and studying their effects at genomic levels. The research seeks to uncover the biological mechanisms behind the utilization and effects of essential amino acids and micronutrients in pigs. This knowledge is expected to identify key genes and their regulation in response to micronutrient supplementation, reduce feed costs, and optimize animal-source food production.

The university’s research team comprises Dr. Neeraj Kashyap, Principal Investigator, Dr. C.S. Mukhopadhyay, Dr. Bharti Deshmukh, and Dr. Amit Sharma will leverage advanced laboratories, state-of-the-art instrumentation and computational facilities for this project.

Dr. J.P.S. Gill, Vice-Chancellor, lauded the team for securing this funding and stated that it further empowers the resolve of the Varsity for working towards upliftment of farmers and improving livestock productivity.
