Chandigarh, 17th January 2025: As part of the ongoing "National Road Safety Month-2025," the Chandigarh Traffic Police, under the leadership of Sh. Surendra Singh Yadav, Director General of Police, Sh. Sumer Partap Singh, SSP/Security & Traffic and supervision of Sh. Lakshay Pandey, DSP/Road Safety & Development, Dr. Parvesh Sharma, Inspector, I/C-CTP, conducted multiple road safety awareness drives/sessions across various locations in the city today.
The awareness team educated over 40 students and teachers from Government Model Senior Secondary School, Timber Market, Sector-26, Chandigarh at of CTP, Sector-23, Chandigarh. During these sessions, a pledge on road safety was administered, and a road safety quiz was held, with trophies awarded to the top-performing students.
Later, the team hosted a road safety session for around 40 employees from Jubilant Foodworks Ltd, Mohali, at the same CTP location. In this session, about 40 participants of Jubilant Foodworks Ltd were educated on different aspects of road safety. The session focused on essential traffic rules, parking practices, and the importance of adhering to road safety protocols, including giving way to ambulances and other emergency vehicles.
In the evening, Dr. Parvesh Sharma, along with other officials from the Chandigarh Traffic Police, visited Sukhna Lake, Chandigarh, where they engaged with over 200 members of the general public. The awareness initiative was further strengthened through collaboration with Ms. Sanjana Vats, District Youth Officer of Nehru Yuva Kendra, PEC, Chandigarh, and her team. They worked together with the Chandigarh Traffic Police to sensitize the public on essential traffic rules and regulations. During the event, the team distributed T-shirts and caps among the attendees to promote the message of road safety. A road safety quiz was organized, and trophies were awarded to the winners, encouraging active participation. A road safety pledge was also administered to the public, reinforcing the commitment to follow safe road practices.
All these sessions covered various aspects of road safety, including provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, amendments since 1st September 2019, and the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989. Special attention was given to the use of safety gear, such as BIS-certified helmets and seat belts for adults and children over four years of age, engine switching-off to reduce pollution, and adherence to road signage, markings, and traffic light signals. Road signage, markings, traffic light signals, carpooling, cycling, and proper parking practices were also highlighted. Road safety literature was distributed to further educate the public.
The Chandigarh Traffic Police urges all citizens to adhere to traffic rules & regulations for their own safety and that of others, ultimately contributing to safer roads and fewer traffic-related fatalities.
