DC Bilaspur Honored with Best Electoral Practices Award-2025 by President Droupadi Murmu

*Deputy Commissioner Abid Hussain Sadiq Receives Prestigious National Award in New Delhi

Bilaspur, January 26. The district of Bilaspur has been honored with the prestigious "Best Electoral Practices Award-2025" for exemplary performance during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The award was conferred upon Deputy Commissioner Abid Hussain Sadiq by President Droupadi Murmu at the National Voters' Day celebration held in New Delhi.

Among 788 districts across India, only 15 were selected for this prestigious recognition, including Bilaspur and Lahaul-Spiti from Himachal Pradesh. The award celebrates excellence in election management, voter education, inclusive practices, and innovative initiatives undertaken during the electoral process.

District Achievements in Election Management

During the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Bilaspur district established 418 polling stations, including 16 model polling stations, 8 women-managed polling stations, and one polling station managed by persons with disabilities. The SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) program played a pivotal role in adding 4,473 new voters to the electoral roll, ensuring their active participation in democracy.

Innovative Awareness Campaigns

Special initiatives under SVEEP were focused on boosting voter turnout, particularly in low-turnout areas. Renowned writer Ratan Chand Nirjar visited these areas, inspiring voters with motivational messages. The song “Mera Vote, Meri Duty” became a key tool in driving voter awareness.

District fairs, street plays, selfie points, and cultural programs engaged citizens and promoted electoral participation. Innovations like “Democracy Vans,” digital voter invitation cards, and extensive use of social media expanded the reach of these campaigns. Additionally, polling stations were equipped with facilities such as shaded waiting areas, ORS arrangements, and crèches to ensure inclusive and convenient voting experiences.

After receiving the award, Deputy Commissioner Abid Hussain Sadiq expressed his gratitude and said, “This recognition is not just for me but for the entire district of Bilaspur. It is a testament to the collective efforts of all officials, employees, and citizens who contributed to making this achievement possible.” He dedicated the award to the people of Bilaspur and commended the hard work of his team.
