Chandigarh Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla Inaugurates Inter-State T-10 Cricket Tournament for Disabled Persons on Wheelchairs

Chandigarh, February 1: City Mayor Smt. Harpreet Kaur Babla today inaugurated the Inter-State T-10 Cricket Tournament for Disabled Persons on Wheelchairs at Government Senior Secondary School, Sector 26, Chandigarh.

The event, aimed at promoting inclusivity and sportsmanship, witnessed enthusiastic participation from specially-abled players across states.

During her address, Mayor Babla appreciated the dedication and spirit of all participants, reaffirming full support from the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation for such inclusive sporting events.

“These players are an inspiration to all of us, proving that determination and passion have no barriers,” she stated.

The event was graced by other guests, including former cricketer and actor Sh. Yograj Singh. The Guests of Honour included Sh. B.S. Sandhu (Retd. DGP, Haryana), Dr. B.C. Gupta (Retd. IAS, Punjab), Dr. Ajeet Sadana (Asst. Director, CRRID), Daksh Prem Azad, and Sandeep Passi (MD, Intersoft Data Labs Solutions Pvt. Ltd.).

The tournament saw an exciting start, with Punjab winning against Delhi in the first match and Chandigarh triumphing over Rajasthan in the second. Specially-abled students from CRRID, Ashnan, Pingalwara, and other institutions attended the event, showing their support for the players.

Chandigarh, February 1: City Mayor Mrs. Harpreet Kaur Babla today flagged off a group of 60 devotees from Bal Shiv Mandir, Sector 29, Chandigarh, for the sacred Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj.

Mayor Harpreet Babla emphasized the spiritual and cultural significance of the Maha Kumbh Mela, wishing the devotees a safe and blessed journey. The pilgrims will take part in holy rituals and sacred dips at the Sangam, seeking divine blessings.

Mayor for strict action against the responsible officials in tragic Incident at Maloya Gaushala

MC Commissioner marks thorough inquiry into the incident

Chandigarh, February 1:City Mayor, Mrs. Harpreet Kaur Babla and MC Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS visited the Maloya Gaushala today where a tragic incident took place this morning in which one cow and seven oxen were found dead.

The Mayor said that concerned officials reported that the shocking incident occurred when the animals came into contact with an iron pole that had become electrically charged.
The Mayor accompanied by Senior Deputy Mayor Sh. Jasbir Singh, Deputy Mayor Smt. Taruna Mehta and area Councillor Smt. Nirmala Devi, immediately visited the Gaushala and expressed deep sorrow over the unfortunate incident.

The Mayor stated that It was a heartbreaking incident for all of the citizens and such occurrences are unacceptable. She said strict action will be taken against the responsible officials to prevent this from happening again. She said that the MCC will ensure that all Gaushalas are well-managed, and be handed over to NGOs for better care and safety.

MC Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar has directed concerned officials to conduct a thorough inquiry into the incident and take stringent action against those found responsible. He emphasized the importance of accountability and safety measures in Gaushalas across the city.

In this tragic event, 25 cows were saved due to the brave efforts of MC Staff , whose quick thinking helped prevent further loss of life. The Municipal Corporation has decided to honor and appreciate selfless act of the official.

All senior MC officials, along with the Commissioner, were present at the site to assess the situation and take immediate corrective measures. The Municipal Corporation is committed to ensuring the safety of all animals in Gaushalas and will implement necessary reforms to prevent such incidents in the future.
