One day Workshop on "Integrative Medicine: Bridging Science and Holistic healing for comprehensive care" was conducted successfully at PGIMER.
Workshop on "Integrative Medicine: Bridging Science and Holistic healing for comprehensive care" was conducted at PGIMER Chandigarh on 22nd Feb 2025, organised by organising secretaries, Dr. Pramod K. Avti, Additional Professor from Dept. of Biophysics and, Dr. Krishan Kumar, Associate Professor from Dept of Psychiatry, PGIMER, and organising chairman Dr Akshay Anand, Professor incharge of CCRYN-Collaborative Centre for Mind Body Intervention through Yoga, PGIMER and Dr Raghvendra Rao, CCRYN Director, Ministry of AYUSH, New Delhi. Director. A musical Yoga performance was presented by Yoga trainers from Yoga centre, PGIMER followed by inauguration.
Chief Guest, Dr B N Gangadhar, NMC chairman, currently, Emeritus Professor at NIMHANS, Bengaluru and Former Director, NIMHANS, Bengaluru inaugurated the workshop is presence of Guest of Honours, Dr Vivek Lal, PGIMER Director, Chandigarh and Dr Raghvendra Rao. Dr Akshay welcomed all the speakers, chairpersons and partitcipants with his motivating speech. He said that “We are motivated not only to do research but to provide service and this year yoga centre is focusing on quality of yoga program.” Dr. Vivek Lal encouraged adopting integrative medicine for holistic healing and said that "Integrative implies harmony”. He further added that it is our duty to bring our ancient traditional knowledge of Integrative medicine to forefront and provide scientific evidence so that we can take our Indian civilization to a greater height as it was before. Dr BN Gangadhar, an advocate of integrative medicine remarked "It is difficult to bring all forms of traditional medicine together but in days to come people will see the positive effect of integrative medicine for attaining good health”
Dr Gangadhar, Dr Lal and Dr Rao launched 4 books, namely Neuroscience of Yoga, Vridhavastha me Kamar Dard ke liye Yogasana, Nature Beyond Nature and Methods and Controversies in Clinical Trials. The Neuroscience of Yoga is a two-part book that explores the scientific foundation of yoga, providing evidence-based insights into its effects on the brain and its role in managing neuro-diseases. Another book, focused on low back pain, offers practical guidance on evidence-based yoga practices specifically designed for managing back pain, particularly in the geriatric population. Nature Beyond Nature, authored by experienced meditator Mr. Rakesh Mittal, presents a compelling perspective on physical, mental, and spiritual growth via Yoga and meditation. The fourth book describes the process of conducting clinical trials and controversies associated with it.
The workshop witnessed an impressive turnout of over 100 participants eager to hear from our esteemed guest speakers. Dr Raghvendra Rao spoke about scope and challenges of integrative medicine. He remarked that integrative medicine should be patient centric focusing on treating the disease, reducing the progression, reducing pain and stress, and improve quality of life. Dr Ishwar Basavaraddi, Director, Centre of Yoga, Wellness and Integrative, MMG University Jaipur, highlighted how Yoga can be used in integrative medicine and talked about the advancement in this field. Swami Tyagraj Saraswati from Bihar school of Yoga also graced this occasion and enlightened the audience about how Yoga is beneficial for holistic healing as "Yoga promotes healing power within us". Dr P N Ravindra, Additional Professor at Centre for consciousness studies, NIMHANS Bengaluru, imparted knowledge that sleep disturbances can lead to neuropsychiatric conditions. CME on Colorectal Diseases organized at PGIMER
The Department of General Surgery at PGIMER, Chandigarh, successfully hosted a Continuing Medical Education (CME) program on colorectal diseases, bringing together leading experts in the field. The event, held at the NINE Auditorium, PGIMER, was organized in association with the Association of Colon & Rectal Surgeons of India (ACRSI).
The scientific program featured multiple sessions covering a wide spectrum of colorectal diseases, including surgical advancements, minimally invasive techniques, and emerging trends in colorectal cancer treatment. Notable faculty members from across India delivered insightful presentations.
Key Highlights of the Event:
* Surgical Innovations: Experts discussed minimally invasive surgery for pilonidal
sinus, robotic low anterior resection, and laser treatment for hemorrhoids.
* Colorectal Cancer Management: Sessions focused on MRI’s role in rectal
cancer, neoadjuvant systemic therapy, and laparoscopic techniques for complex surgeries. • Emerging Trends: A special discussion covered the changing epidemiology of
colorectal cancer in young patients.
* Analytical Discussions: Renowned surgeons engaged in dialogues on
complications in rectal surgeries, fertility preservation, and lateral lymph node dissection in carcinoma rectum.

The event was inaugurated by the Director PGIMER Chandigarh, Prof Vivek Lal ,chaired by eminent professionals, including Dr. Pradeep Sharma (President, ACRSI), Prof. Lileswar Kaman (Organizing Chairman), Dr. Yashwant Raj Sakaray (Organizing Secretary), A diverse audience of medical practitioners, researchers, and students benefited from the in-depth sessions.
Surgery residents from across the country actively participated in E-Poster and winners were awarded with exciting prizes.
The CME concluded with discussions on future directions in colorectal surgery and the role of advanced therapies like HIPEC in colorectal cancer treatment. The event reinforced PGIMER’s commitment to enhancing medical education and research in surgical gastroenterology.

Rare Disease Awareness month: Walkathon organized from PGI to Sukhna
Celebration of Rare Disease month: Walkathon from PGI Chandigarh to Sukhna Lake
On the occasion of Rare Disease Day, ORDI in collaboration with PGI Chandigarh organized a remarkable event—Race for 7, a unique walkathon aimed at raising awareness about rare diseases on 23rd Feb'2025. The event commenced from the renowned PGI Bhargav auditorium after flag of by Dean Sir Prof. R. K Ratho and concluded at the scenic Sukhna Lake, bringing together participants, families, medical professionals, and advocates of rare disease awareness.
The walkathon was graced by three distinguished persons: Dean academics PGI Chandi Bhavne Prof. Bhavneet, Principal, BR Ambedkar Institute,Mohali and Mr Vikas Bhatia from MERD India Foundation. Dr Inusha Panigrahi, Professor and unit head, Genetic metabolic unit, a leading expert in rare diseases had taken the initiative with ORDI Indis for a noble cause. Their presence added immense value to the event, as they highlighted the importance of early diagnosis and the need for better healthcare policies to support those affected by rare genetic conditions.
The day was filled with enthusiasm and solidarity as hundreds of participants walked in unison, wearing vibrant T-shirts and holding banners advocating for rare disease awareness. The event was aimed also to inspire compassion and a sense of community belonging among people affected by rare diseases. The walk concluded with a message of hope, as the collective spirit of the participants illuminated the fight for better resources and support for those battling chronic rare diseases.
The success of the Walkathon was a testament to the growing commitment toward rare disease advocacy in India after formation of the National Rare disease policy.
