Chandigarh, March 21:- In a bid to strengthen cleanliness drive with 24x7 sweeping and sustainable waste management, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has intensified its sanitation efforts specially ensuring swift and efficient leaf collection during the seasonal shedding of dry leaves.
While sharing this initiative, the city Mayor Smt. Harpreet Kaur Babla stated that the MC Chandigarh remains committed to a cleaner, greener city through its 24x7 sweeping system and sustainable waste management initiative. She said that the Municipal Corporation follows dual sweeping approach round the clock sweeping for maximum cleanliness to maintain hygiene and reduce pollution i.e. daytime manual sweeping under which all the sanitation workers clean roads, streets, markets and public spaces; water sprinkling minimizes dust pollution besides giving special attention to parks and residential areas.
She further said that during night time advanced sweeping machines clean major roads on alternate days; water spraying technology reduces dust and enhances efficiency and footpaths are washed besides trimming of overgrown vegetation from road berms and sides.
The Municipal Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS has directed the sanitation inspectors to enhance vigilance and adhere to proper waste processing guidelines to maintain cleanliness across the city.
He said that to ensure environmentally responsible waste management, MCC has prioritized composting dry leaves in the compost pits at big gardens and green belts. With 104 compost pits operational across the city, dry leaves collected from parks and trees are transformed into high-quality organic manure, promoting soil enrichment and reducing landfill waste.
He urges all citizens to actively support cleanliness initiatives by keeping their surroundings clean and participating in community-driven sanitation efforts.
