Special drive against consuming liquor at public place was carried out at different parts of the city in which total 16 cases U/S 68-1 (B) Punjab Police Act 2007 & 510 IPC got registered. This drive will be continuing in future, the general public is requested for not breaking the law.
In continuation of a special drive against consuming liquor at public place, yesterday, the drive was carried out at different parts of the city. Under this drive total 16 different cases U/S 68-1 (B) Punjab Police Act 2007 & 510 IPC got registered in different police stations of Chandigarh in which total 16 persons were arrested while consuming liquor at public place. All accused later on bailed out. The detail of police Stations in which cases U/S 68-1 (B) Punjab Police Act 2007 & 510 got registered: - PS-17 = 2 cases, PS-Sarangpur= 1 case, PS-19 = 2 cases, PS-Ind. Area = 4 cases, PS-Mauli Jagran=1 case, PS-31= 2 cases, PS-34= 1 case and PS-39= 3 cases. This drive will be continuing in future, the general public is requested for not breaking the law.
Gambling Act
The local police arrested Khalid @ Guddu resident of Burail, Chandigarh, from Village Burail, Chandigarh, while playing satta and recovered cash Rs. 1640/- from his possession. A case FIR No. 383, U/S 13-A-3-67 Gambling Act has been registered in PS-MM, Chandigarh. Investigation of the case is in progress.
Arrested in Arms Act
The local Police arrested Vikash R/o # E-4, Uppal Marbal, Mani Majra, Chandigarh, near his residence on 08.10.2017 and recovered 2 Pistol and 54 live cartridges from his Innova car No. HP-64B-8786. A case FIR No. 255, U/S 25-54-59 Arms Act has been registered in PS-MM, Chandigarh. Investigation of the case is in progress.

Sh. Ankush R/o 1005, Sector-19-B, Chandigarh reported that Sunil Kumar R/o # 1733/1, Mouli Jagran Complex, Chandigarh, who cheats complainant. A case FIR No. 173, U/S 420 IPC has been registered in PS-19, Chandigarh. Accused arrested in this case. Investigation of the case is in progress.

Ashok Jumar R/o # 1583/1, Sector-30/B, Chandgarh reported that Santosh R/o # B-1460, Azad Pur, New Dehli, who stole away complainant’s wife purse containing cash Rs. 1000/- and one Samsung mobile from Market Sector-19, Chandigarh. Pawan Kumar R/o # 1162, New Indra colony, Manimajra, Chandigarh reported that Sanjay R/o # 1355, New Indira Colony, Manimajra, Chandigarh, caught red handed while while stealing two mobile phones from complainant’s residence. Sh. Ajaib Singh R/o VPO Dasoli, Distt. Mohali reported that Pardeep Singh R/o # Village Khatra, Distt. Ludhiana, driver of CTU bus No. CH01GA5026, hit to complainant’s tractor No. PB11P-8350 near Ziri Mandi chowk. A case FIR No. 196, U/S 279, 337, 304-A IPC has been registered in PS-Maloya, Chandigarh. Later on during treatment complaint died. Investigation of the case is in progress.
Smt. Sushila R/o # 44, Shivali Vihar, Naya Gaon, Mohali, reported that unknown vehicle hit to complainant’s active No. CH01AE-1238 near Road Khuda Ali Sher. Complainant got injuries and admitted in GH-16, Chandigarh. A case FIR No. 301, U/S 279, 337 IPC has been registered in PS-11, Chandigarh. Investigation of the case is in progress.

Chandigarh Traffic Police is conducting special drive against drunken driving in the city by organizing nakas using breath analyzers on different locations near pubs, clubs, bars, restaurants and hotels
Chandigarh,09.10.17-Chandigarh Traffic Police is conducting special drive against drunken driving in the city by organizing nakas using breath analyzers on different locations near pubs, clubs, bars, restaurants and hotels. For community participation, traffic marshals are also present at these nakas.
During last weekend, Traffic Police organized special nakas in the city at various places to check drunken driving and booked 85 offenders for this violation and their vehicles were also impounded. Challan documents have been forwarded to District Court for further legal proceedings. It is pertinent to mention that during this year upto 08.10.2017, 4829 offenders have been booked for the violation of drunken driving.
As per Section 185 of Motor Vehicle Act 1988, he/she shall be punishable for the first offence with imprisonment for a term which may extend to six months, or with fine which may extend to two thousand rupees, or with both.
Further as per Sector 20 (2) of Motor Vehicle Act 1988, his/her driving license shall be disqualified for a period of not less than six months.
As per Section 22(2) of Motor Vehicle Act 1988, if a person, having been previously convicted of an offence punishable under section 185 is again convicted of an offence punishable under that section, the Court, making such subsequent conviction, shall, by order, cancel the driving licence held by such person”.
Chandigarh Traffic Police appeals to the general public to avoid driving in drunken condition and also ensure that a sober person drives in such situation or alternate means of transport are engaged.
