CHANDIGARH,21.07.20-Recently Two Senior Citizens have reportedly committed suicide, one by drowning in Sukhna Lake and other fired a bullet on his own from his own ammunition. After they were found dead their kin ,as per media reports, pointed out that they were depressed during this crisis period. In these two cases it is observe that kin were either living with them or were living very near to them and senior were depressed in spite of that .It is a matter of record that police deptt ,during curfew period came forward in a big way and contacted the seniors and even supplied their requirements at their door step whereas it was personal duty of their family members. But after opening of lock down this practice was discontinued where as Social Welfare deptt also reportedly did nothing beyond opening of helpline which was helpful but did nothing for silent sufferers. From the experience while dealing with Senior Citizen issue, it is also felt that in many cases Seniors Suffer due to behavioural approach of their children and at the same time those who live alone are many a times found suffering due to loneliness but feel better as far as behaviour is concerned. Both ways Senior are at recdeiving end either they suffer due to loneliness or they suffer due to bad behaviour from their family members. It is also felt that root cause is financial security and properties only. When parents give all rights to children and distribute all they have than they suffer at the hands of children even for petty things and in many cases, they are forced to agree to terms of children who want parents to give all they have. Recently when lot of parents who were under COVID fear have made their WILLS for the money and properties they have. The WILLS might have been made on their own or these have been encouraged by the children. Unless a balance between relations is maintained the parents are likely to suffer. Best example of this can be a very Senior Citizen who lived for more than 90 years ,He made his will and recorded all this desires ,made packet of all documents ,handed over to friend lawyer in presence of his family and told that this packet may be opened immediately after he dies. And it was done and he had distributed all his belongings including his body in such a way that there was no issue at all. So all should be very careful, maintain balance not only in personal relations but in financial transactions also.
In this regard it is felt that all the senior citizens are responsibility of the entire society, Govt and all near and dear ones include family members. After all these are the persons who have given their entire life to this country in making its present state and gathered all comforts to their children. In their grey years they need to be looked after very carefully both personally and legally.
