Ludhiana 26 November 2025-The College of Dairy and Food Science Technology, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, marked National Milk Day with two major activities—a Nutrition Awareness Drive at PAU Smart School and the release of a video addressing prevalent societal myths about milk.
Postgraduate students conducted an interactive awareness session for Class 5 students at Government Senior Secondary Smart School, PAU, Ludhiana— the drive aimed to educate children about the nutritional richness of milk and encourage healthy dietary habits. Students explained that milk, being a natural source of high-quality protein, calcium, minerals, and vitamins, is far superior to sugary soft drinks and energy beverages, which contain caffeine and preservatives. “Choosing milk means choosing health,” the presenters emphasized.
Alongside the school activity, a myth-busting video was prepared to counter widespread misconceptions such as “concentrated milk is better,” “packaged milk is less nutritious,” and “Ultra-high-temperature milk contains preservatives.” Shot by undergraduate and postgraduate students, the video aimed to promote scientific awareness and prevent misinformation. It was formally released on National Milk Day, 26th November, by Dr. J.P.S. Gill, Vice Chancellor, in the presence of university officers. All activities were carried out under the overall guidance of Dr. S.K. Uppal, Dean, College of Dairy and Food Science Technology.
Around 250 schoolchildren participated enthusiastically in the programme, which featured posters, demonstrations, and interactive discussions. Nearly 20 postgraduate students contributed by preparing flavoured milk at the Experimental Dairy Processing Plant, managing activities, and delivering awareness talks.
The celebrations also paid tribute to Dr. Verghese Kurien, the legendary “Milkman of India” and architect of the White Revolution. Reflecting on his vision, students highlighted his belief that “True development is the development of people.”
The programme concluded with the distribution of hot chocolate-flavoured milk, which the school children enjoyed with delight.
