Ludhiana 15 March 2026-Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana one-day specialized training programme on “Hygienic Quail Meat Production and Processing for Entrepreneurship Development and Income Generation.” The programme was conducted under the SC-SP sub-head of AICRP on Cattle: FPT with the objective of strengthening entrepreneurial skills.
25 trainees representing different districts of Punjab participated. The sessions were focused on hygienic production, scientific processing techniques and innovative value-addition strategies for quail meat products.
Dr. Nitin Mehta, HoD, Livestock Products Technology informed that Directorate of Livestock Farms was collaborating in this initiative. Programme imparted fundamental knowledge along with hands-on training in quail meat production and processing. Importance of Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) registration and effective marketing strategies to help entrepreneurs also described.
Dr. Sikh Tejinder Singh, Director, Livestock Farms, underscored the immense potential of quail farming to strengthen the rural economy. The programme was coordinated by Dr. P. P. Dubey, Dr. Pavan Kumar, Dr. S. K. Sahoo and Dr. Rajesh V. Wagh, who ensured effective delivery of the training sessions.
Dr. Swaran Singh Randhawa, Dean, College of Veterinary Science, encouraged farmers and rural youth to venture into self-employment by establishing their own quail production and processing units. Dr. Ravinder Singh Grewal, Director of Extension Education, highlighted the significant role of value addition in enhancing farmers’ income and improving the profitability of livestock enterprises.
Dr. J. P. S. Gill, Vice-Chancellor, emphasized that such capacity-building programmes play a pivotal role in empowering farmers and small-scale processors. He noted that these initiatives encourage the establishment of sustainable agri based enterprises, thereby promoting self-employment, economic resilience and improved livelihoods.
