Chandigarh, August 25, 2026:A joint delegation of the Chandigarh Traders Association (Regd.), Sector 17 and Property Federation Chandigarh (Regd.), led by President Kamaljit Singh Panchhi, along with Senior Vice President Mandeep Singh and Vice President Kulwant Singh, met Sh. Gulab Chand Kataria, Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator, Chandigarh, and submitted representations highlighting several pressing issues affecting traders, property owners, shopkeepers, tenants, commercial establishments and the wider business community and general public of Chandigarh.
*The delegation specifically sought the Hon’ble Administrator’s intervention on the following key issues*:
1. Reconsideration of the implementation of the Commercial Tenancies Act (Assam Tenancy Act, 2021) in Chandigarh, keeping in view the practical concerns and interests of landlords, tenants and commercial establishments.
2. Implementation of the Haryana Fire & Emergency Services Act, 2022 in Chandigarh, particularly the serious practical difficulties and compliance-related challenges being faced by traders and owners of commercial establishments.
3. Immediate calculation and implementation of unearned profit charges for the transfer of GPA properties in Chandigarh, as the present uncertainty and delay are causing considerable hardship to thousands of residents and property owners.
The Hon’ble Governor gave the delegation a patient hearing and sufficient time to explain the issues in detail. He appreciated the concerns raised and assured the delegation that the matters would be examined and appropriate steps taken at the earliest.
Kamaljit Singh Panchhi expressed his gratitude to the Hon’ble Governor for giving a patient hearing to the delegation and said, “We sincerely hope that these important issues will be addressed positively and that concrete relief will be provided to the affected traders, property owners and members of the public at the earliest.” The delegation reiterated its commitment to continuously raise genuine public and business-related issues with the Chandigarh Administration and work constructively for a business-friendly, transparent and people-oriented Chandigarh.
