Chandigarh, September 22: Haryana Energy, Transport and Labour Minister Sh. Anil Vij today launched a sharp attack on the opposition, saying that opposition parties were uneasy over the possibility of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government coming to power in Punjab. He said that the people had rejected the existence of these parties and asserted that whether they contest elections together or separately, “their political end is certain.” Vij said that whenever the opposition parties had been given an opportunity to govern the country, they had failed to deliver. “Why would the people choose those who have repeatedly failed when given an opportunity?” he asked.

Vij was responding to questions from mediapersons regarding the exchange of allegations and counter-allegations among political parties in view of the upcoming elections, including recent statements by senior Congress leaders ruling out an alliance with the Samajwadi Party (SP).

*On Kejriwal’s Remarks, Vij Says Opposition Worried Over BJP’s Anti-Drug Campaign*

Reacting to a post by Arvind Kejriwal following BJP President Nitin Nabin’s visit to Punjab, in which Kejriwal had said that the fight against drugs should begin from Mundra Port rather than Punjab and that Gujarat-bound drug trafficking should be stopped, Vij said that Kejriwal was concerned about the possibility of a BJP government being formed in Punjab. Vij said that the BJP had launched a campaign against drugs in Punjab and alleged that the opposition was becoming increasingly apprehensive about its impact.

He said that since the campaign was underway, opposition leaders were worried that if the BJP came to power, the drug menace would be curbed. He further alleged that politicians linked with drug “kingpins” feared that their political interests would be affected and were therefore making such statements.

*Vij Hits Back at Surjewala Over Farmers’ Issues*

Responding to a question about Congress leader Randeep Surjewala’s post alleging that the BJP’s “Bhajpa ka Double engine” in Haryana had become a “Dhoke ka double dose” for farmers, Vij said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, strong emphasis was being placed on policies for farmers. He said that crops in Haryana were being procured at the Minimum Support Price (MSP). He also highlighted the annual assistance of ₹6,000 being provided to farmers by the Central Government, saying that the amount helps them meet various small day-to-day requirements.

Vij said that such measures had not been undertaken by previous governments in the same manner and reiterated that the interests of farmers were being given priority under the BJP government.
