Chandigarh, September 21, 2026:The Department of Social Welfare, Women & Child Development, Chandigarh Administration, organized a series of Community-Based Events (CBEs) at Anganwadi Centres across Chandigarh as part of Rashtriya POSHAN Maah 2026, focusing on nutrition awareness, maternal and child health, and greater community participation in improving nutritional outcomes.
The activities included awareness sessions on nutritious diets, Hot Cooked Meals (HCM), Take-Home Ration (THR), anaemia prevention, maternal health and child nutrition, besides PMMVY awareness and registration, antenatal check-ups, home visits and demonstrations on ORS preparation.
In Vikas Nagar Circle, an awareness lecture was held on the nutritional value and health benefits of Fresh Hot Cooked Meals provided at Anganwadi Centres. Beneficiaries interacted with the ANM and were sensitized about consuming nutritious, freshly prepared meals and adopting healthy dietary practices.
At Burail Circle, a PMMVY awareness and registration drive was organized along with an awareness lecture. Beneficiaries were informed about the benefits and eligibility under the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) and the importance of timely registration.
At Indira Colony under Manimajra Town Circle, a programme on “Community Participation and Poshan Awareness” was organized with nutrition as the central theme. Dr. Tejas from PGIMER delivered a lecture on balanced nutrition and interacted with beneficiaries through an open-house session to address their queries.
The programme also highlighted the Hot Cooked Meal (HCM) and Take-Home Ration (THR) provided through Anganwadi Centres. Anganwadi Workers explained the HCM menu and its nutritional benefits to parents, while nutrition-rich food items were displayed to encourage healthy food choices for children and families.
As part of the activities, antenatal check-ups and registration of newly identified pregnant women were undertaken. Awareness sessions were also conducted on nutrition, supplements and anaemia prevention. Home visits were made to counsel families on anaemia prevention, immunization and child nutrition, including families of Severely Acute Malnourished (SAM) and underweight children. Demonstrations on ORS preparation were also conducted.
The activities aimed to strengthen community participation and awareness about nutrition and maternal and child health, while encouraging beneficiaries to make regular use of nutrition and health services available through Anganwadi Centres, in line with the objectives of Rashtriya
