Ramanagara, Karnataka Municipal Council delegation visits Chandigarh to study waste management practices
Chandigarh, September 26:- A delegation of around 46 elected representatives and officials of City Municipal Council, Ramanagara, Karnataka, visited the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh under the Capacity Building and Exposure Visit Programme of Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0.
The delegates were warmly welcomed by MC Joint Commissioner, Sh. Balbir Raj Singh, who also delivered a brief presentation highlighting the best practices and key initiatives of the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh in the field of solid waste management and sanitation.
During the visit, the delegation first visited the C&D Waste Processing Plant and thereafter the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) Plant, where MCC officials briefed them about waste processing, source segregation, resource recovery and door-to-door waste collection systems.
The delegation also gathered information about various municipal initiatives and best practices adopted in Chandigarh, particularly in the areas of solid waste management, source segregation, waste processing, MRF operations and citizen participation.
The exposure visit provided an opportunity for meaningful knowledge sharing and exchange of best practices between the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh and City Municipal Council, Ramanagara, Karnataka.

Swachhata Gyan Yatra’ gives DAV students first-hand lessons in scientific waste management
Chandigarh, September 26:- Turning classroom learning into practical experience, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh organised a ‘Swachhata Gyan Yatra’ for around 50 students and teachers of DAV Model School, Sector 15, as part of the ongoing Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2026 campaign.
The students visited the Pink MRF Centre, Sector 25, and the Dry & Wet Waste Processing Plant at Dadumajra, where they received first-hand exposure to the city’s scientific waste management system. During the visit, the students were apprised of the importance of waste segregation at source, collection, material recovery, processing, treatment and scientific disposal.
MCC officials explained how proper segregation of waste at the household level plays a crucial role in ensuring efficient processing and reducing the quantity of waste reaching disposal sites. The students also learnt about the role of citizens in maintaining cleanliness and adopting responsible waste management practices in their daily lives.
The ‘Swachhata Gyan Yatra’ was aimed at creating awareness among young citizens and inspiring them to become ‘Swachhata Ambassadors’ who can promote source segregation and sustainable waste management among their families, classmates and communities.
The MCC has been undertaking a series of awareness and public participation activities under SHS 2026, with a focus on strengthening Jan Bhagidari and encouraging citizens, particularly the younger generation, to actively contribute towards a cleaner and more sustainable Chandigarh.
