ROPAR, 28.09.26-Prof. Rajeev Ahuja, Director, Indian Institute of Technology Ropar, has been awarded the National Systems Gold Medal by the Systems Society of India. It is the highest award instituted by the Society.

The medal was presented at Dayalbagh Educational Institute, Agra. The occasion was the 49th (Inter) National Systems Conference, held from 21 to 23 September 2026 under the theme "Integrated Intelligent Systems for People and Planet".

The National Systems Gold Medal is given to an eminent person who has made significant contribution to any branch of Systems Science and Engineering. It is presented at the National Systems Conference, the Society's annual flagship event.

Speaking on the honour, Prof. Rajeev Ahuja, Director, IIT Ropar, said:

"I am humbled to receive the National Systems Gold Medal. This recognition belongs to the entire IIT Ropar family, our students, faculty, researchers and staff, whose work makes an institution what it is. I thank the Systems Society of India for this honour. It motivates us to keep working on problems that matter for our people and our planet."

A medal with a distinguished roll of honour

Over the years, the medal has been received by some of the country's most respected scientists and academic leaders. They include Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, former Hon’ble President of India (1997) and Dr. K. Sivan, former Chairman of ISRO (2018).

The Institute offers B.Tech, M.Tech, M.Sc and Ph.D. programmes, along with joint and interdisciplinary degrees. It is known for research in areas such as artificial intelligence, clean energy, biomedical engineering, and water and agriculture.
