Chandigarh, October 20, 2026:The Governor of Punjab and Administrator, U.T. Chandigarh, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, today participated in Vijayadashami celebrations at Sectors 17, 46, and 48 in Chandigarh and performed Ravana Dahan , highlighting the festival’s message of the victory of good over evil. He called upon citizens to give up drug abuse and actively contribute to building a Drug-Free Chandigarh.

Addressing the gathering at the Dussehra celebration, the Governor said that the festival reminds people to overcome inner evils such as anger, greed, hatred, corruption and ego, and to follow the ideals of Lord Rama, including truth, duty, compassion and justice.

He emphasised that collective efforts by families, teachers, youth and social and religious organisations are essential to combat drug abuse. He also stressed that people struggling with addiction should be supported through treatment, counselling and rehabilitation rather than being subjected to hatred.

The Governor further highlighted the importance of women’s empowerment, and social harmony. He urged citizens to respect women, oppose injustice, protect nature and strengthen brotherhood in society.
