CHANDIGARH, 20.10.24-The Department of Hepatology, PGIMER, Chandigarh, in collaboration with the Department of Gastroenterology, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, and the Department of Hepatology, Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute, Lucknow, is organizing the 24th Current Perspectives in Liver Disease (CPLD) 2024 on 19th to 20th October 2024 at Bhargava Auditorium, PGIMER, Chandigarh.

CPLD is organized annually since the year 2000 by alternating the venue between PGI and AIIMS every year. SGPGI- Lucknow also joined this meeting 3 years back. The meeting is usually focused on a theme which is covered in half day on any important area of liver disease. This year the theme of CPLD-2024 is Autoimmune Liver Disease (AILD) which is an important cause of chronic liver disease. AILD is a not uncommon liver disease where the body’s immune system attacks the liver and can result in liver cirrhosis and liver failure.
The conference was inaugurated on 19th October at PGIMER by Prof JB Dilawari, Ex Prof and Head of Hepatology, PGIMER Chandigarh, a senior hepatologist who superannuated from PGI in the year 1998. He was accompanied by Prof RK Ratho, Dean Academic and Prof Sanjay Jain, Dean Research, PGIMER, Chandigarh who were the Guests of Honor at the Inaugural function. Other dignitaries at the inauguration ceremony were Prof RK Dhiman, Co-Organizing Chairperson of CPLD-2024 and Director at SGPGI, Lucknow, Prof Pramod Garg, Co-Organizing Chairperson and Prof and HOD of Gastroenterology at AIIMS, New Delhi, Prof Ajay Duseja, Chairperson of CPLD-2024 and Prof and HOD of Hepatology at PGIMER, Chandigarh and Dr Sunil Taneja from department of Hepatology, PGIMER, Chandigarh, the Organizing Secretary of CPLD- 2024.
National experts across the country are participating in this two day liver conference and are discussing various aspects of liver disease on two days (19th and 20th October, 2024) including but not limited to Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD- earlier called NAFLD/Fatty liver disease), Alcohol Related Liver Disease (ALD), Chronic Viral Hepatitis (including HBV and HCV), Autoimmune Liver Disease, Vascular Diseases of the Liver, Complications of cirrhosis, Acute liver failure and Acute-on-chronic liver failure, Biliopancreatic Disorders, Endo-Hepatology, Hepatocellular Carcinoma (Liver Cancer) and Liver Transplantation.
With the rising number of patients with liver disease in general and those with Fatty Liver, Alcohol Related Liver disease and Liver Cancer in particular, it is very important for the physicians to keep pace with the recent developments in the field of Hepatology. The conference is being attended by more than 350 participants including 125 conference faculty across the country and is surely going to help them in improving the clinical care of the patients with liver disease.
