SHIMLA - 15 March, 2025-Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. (Col.) Dhani Ram Shandil said here today that a Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) unit has been set up at H.P. Government Dental College and Hospital, Shimla. This CBCT unit is the state-of-art radiographic diagnostic equipment and is one of its kinds in the state which provides the largest coverage of the skull and maxillofacial region including the cervical spine.

He said that this unit provides 3-D volumetric data, utilized for diagnosing structural abnormalities of bone and dentition in the field of Dentistry. It also provides better diagnostic capabilities in comparison to 2D X-rays while diagnosing dental and maxillofacial bone pathologies because of its 3-dimensional projects. He said it also achieves this with radiation doze much lower in comparison to medical CT, however, the resolution achieved is higher.

Health and Family Welfare Minister said that this machine has multiple applications in Dento-maxillofacial diagnosis which is not only limited to intra-osseous implants, complex Maxillofacial fractures, evaluation of bony pathologies, assessment of oral cancer involving jaw bones, assessment of patients with complex orofacial pain, dental rehabilitation, ENT assessment, airway analysis in patient with sleep apnoc, medical forensics and detailed evaluation of dentition but also provide finest restorative and prosthetic treatment.

He said that this step of the Government would provide specialized medical services in dentistry field to the people within the State.
