CHANDIGARH, 05.04.25-The 12th edition of the International SD Model United Nations (SDMUN) 2025 concluded with a vibrant and memorable closing ceremony at GGDSD College, Chandigarh. Over the course of two days, the event showcased a rich display of intellectual engagement, diplomacy, and creativity as students participated in thought-provoking discussions, crafted resolutions, and reported through journalistic coverage. The conference came to an inspiring close with the felicitation of exceptional delegates, journalists, and photographers.
The event commenced with a green welcome and the ceremonial felicitation of the Chief Guest, Professor Bhupinder Singh Brar, Emeritus Professor of Political Science at Panjab University. He was welcomed by Dr. Ajay Sharma, Principal of GGDSD College, along with Dr. Monika Soni (Coordinator, SDMUN Club) and Dr. Rupinder Aulakh (Coordinator, Digital Safety Club). In his address, Professor Brar applauded the enthusiasm and efforts of both participants and organizers. "Events like SDMUN are a training ground for the statespersons and changemakers of tomorrow. The energy, commitment, and depth of discussion I have witnessed today are not only commendable but also deeply reassuring for the future of global governance and civil society." Dr. Ajay Sharma also addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of platforms like SDMUN in fostering holistic student development. He said, "SDMUN has grown into a model platform of dialogue, deliberation, and diplomacy. It is heartening to see our students rise to the challenge with such grace, intellect, and confidence. These experiences will go a long way in strengthening their civic consciousness and leadership potential."
Dr Sharma and Professor Brar commended the efforts of the women leaders, Dr Monika Soni and Dr Rupinder Aulakh, and noted that their collaboration played a key role in the successful execution of SDMUN 2025. They were felicitated with the award of honour by Principal Sir and the Chief Guest. Cash prizes amounting to fifty thousand were presented to the ‘Best Delegate’ and ‘High Commendation’ award winners across five major committees. The awards were presented by Professor Bhupinder Singh Brar and Principal Dr. Ajay Sharma, joined by Dr Soni and Dr Aulakh.
Adding to the celebratory mood were dynamic cultural performances by students. Highlights included soulful Fusion Qawwali performed with versatile instruments and a powerful and energetic folk dance, bhangra. Dr Soni delivered the vote of thanks, expressing her gratitude to the chief guest, college administration, student organisers, faculty mentors, participants, and sponsors. She acknowledged the months of hard work and coordination that went into the event and reaffirmed the SDMUN Club's commitment to nurturing informed dialogue, global awareness, and student leadership.
