MCC issues 180 notices against wastage of water and 8 violators challaned

Chandigarh, April 15:- The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today started the drive to curb the wastage of drinking water and issued 180 notices to the violators and 8 challans have been issued to the violators.

Following the orders of Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh started the checking of misuse of potable water from 5.30 am to 8.30 am. It was the first day of the drive when several violators were found misusing drinking water at their houses. A fine of Rs. 5788/- was imposed on those challaned.

Under the annual drive from April 15 to June 30, watering of lawns, courtyards, washing of cars and other vehicles using hosepipe invites a challan with a fine of Rs. 5788/- while notices are issued if leaking tank, taps, water meters and water coolers are found by MCC teams. Those served notices have been asked to get the leakages repaired within two days, later a challan will be issued.

Most of the violators were found washing their cars and courtyards. The teams also clicked pictures and made videos of the violations as a documentary evidence.

The Commissioner appealed the citizens of Chandigarh to save drinking water and avoid wastage of it. He said that people may option for TT water for watering their lawns.

First Meeting of MCC Village, Colonies & Slum Development Committee Held

Chandigarh, April 15:The first meeting of the Village, Colonies & Slum Development Committee of the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh was convened today under the chairmanship of Sh. Kuljeet Singh Sandhu. The meeting witnessed active participation from committee members Sh. Harjeet Singh, Sh. Manoj Sonkar, and Sh. Lakhbir Singh, along with concerned officials from the Municipal Corporation.

During the meeting, several key decisions were taken to ensure the holistic development of villages, colonies, and slum areas under the jurisdiction of the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh:

The committee decided to review the number of rented shops in villages merged under MCC and assess the rent fixed by the Corporation. A detailed report on the same will be presented in the next meeting.

It was resolved that Shamlat land in villages will be earmarked for community development purposes such as the establishment of community centres, playgrounds, and other essential public amenities.

The committee instructed the concerned departments to prepare estimates up to ₹15 lakh for urgent developmental works in village, colony, and slum areas. These estimates will be tabled in the next meeting for consideration and approval.

The committee reiterated its commitment to inclusive urban development and improving living conditions across all areas under its purview.
