Chandigarh, April 26:A delegation of the Numberdar Association Ghalib today called on the Governor of Punjab, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, and assured him that the Numberdar community would not stand surety for bail to individuals involved in drug trafficking. The move is aimed at extending full support to the Punjab Government’s ongoing war against drugs.
During the meeting, the delegation informed the Governor that efforts are underway to sensitize all Numberdars across the State—around 35,000 in number—to strictly refrain from supporting drug dealers in any manner, including standing as bail sureties.
The delegation also placed several demands before the Governor, including an increase in their honorarium, exemption from toll taxes on National and State Highways, free bus travel facilities, health insurance, and the provision of separate rooms for Numberdars in Tehsil and District Administrative Complexes.
The Governor appreciated the Association’s resolve to support the anti-drug campaign and assured the delegation that their demands would be considered sympathetically and taken up with the concerned authorities.
