MAHENDERGARH, 28.04.25-The Department of Sociology at Central University of Haryana (CUH), Mahendergarh successfully concluded its five-day GIAN (Global Initiative of Academic Networks) course on “International Migration from South Asia: Context and Policies”. The program was the first-ever GIAN course under the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, marking a significant academic milestone for the University.
The valedictory session on the final day was graced by Prof. Sunita Srivastava, HoD, Depart of Physics & Astrophysics and the First Lady of CUH, as the Chief Guest. In her address, she appreciated the thoughtful execution of the course and congratulated the Department of Sociology for taking the lead in organizing such a relevant and intellectually vibrant program. She emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary discussions on migration and praised the department’s efforts in fostering global academic collaborations.
Prof. Gunjan Goel, the Local GIAN Coordinator, also addressed the gathering and applauded the organizing team for their dedication and successful coordination of the course. He expressed that the engagement, structure, and quality of discourse throughout the five days reflect the university’s growing academic stature.
Dr. Reema Gill, Course Coordinator and Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology, presented the vote of thanks. She expressed her gratitude to the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, invited speakers, university administration, participants, technical staff, volunteers, and every individual who contributed to the smooth conduct of the program. She also extended her appreciation to the GIAN team at the Ministry of Education for their support and funding.
Dr. Radha Adhikari, the international faculty from the University of the West of Scotland, shared her experience of the five-day engagement. She expressed heartfelt appreciation for the hospitality, academic enthusiasm, and active participation she witnessed at CUH. She called the course a memorable experience and lauded the efforts of the department for such a meaningful academic collaboration.
Throughout the five days, the course featured lectures by esteemed scholars including Dr. Radha Adhikari, Prof. Rajesh Gill, Dr. Ellina Samantroy, Dr. Ramya Ranjan Patel and Dr. Reema Gill, covering diverse themes such as historical migration, gendered dimensions, policy frameworks, informal labor, and emerging research in migration studies.
With active participation from 45 attendees representing various institutions across the country, the program concluded on a high note with the distribution of certificates and heartfelt reflections. The GIAN course not only broadened academic horizons but also strengthened CUH’s commitment to global knowledge exchange and interdisciplinary research.
