Chandigarh, October 1:- As part of the ongoing Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 campaign, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh organised a ‘Shramdaan for Swachhta’ cleanliness drive at the Vending Zone (Apni Mandi site), Sector 15, Chandigarh, to promote community participation and collective responsibility for a cleaner city.

Mayor Chandigarh, Sh. Saurabh Joshi, was the Chief Guest and led the cleanliness initiative in the presence of Commissioner, MC Chandigarh, Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, Sh. Balbir Raj Singh, Joint Commissioner and Medical Officer of Health Dr. Inderdeep Kaur and prominent persons of the area.

Addressing the gathering, the Mayor said that cleanliness is a shared responsibility and cannot be sustained through the efforts of civic authorities alone. He urged citizens, vendors, market associations and other stakeholders to actively participate in cleanliness initiatives and make responsible waste management a part of their daily routine.

The Commissioner emphasised the need for sustained cleanliness at public and commercial spaces and urged stakeholders to maintain the same standards beyond special cleanliness drives.

The initiative reinforced the SHS 2026 theme, “Swachhata Mein Sahbhag – Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat,” and highlighted the importance of active public participation in keeping Chandigarh clean, healthy and sustainable.

The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh continues to organise cleanliness and awareness activities across the city to strengthen community engagement and promote responsible waste management practices.
