CHANDIGARH, June 3, 2023:Glamourous student models - 35 girls and 6 boys of Northern India Institute of Fashion Technology(NIIFT), Mohali took the stage by storm to showcase 49 beautiful hands-on collections created by the graduating fashion design students of NIIFT Mohali - affiliated to IK Gujral - PTU, during the ‘Anukama 2023’ fashion show here today.The show was choreographed by Navdeep Kaur, Head of the Fashion Design department.
Charandeep Singh (PCS), Director NIIFT said, “Students used the platform of Anukama to present their signature style. They put in their best work which could be seen in the collections showcased.”
Ravinder Garg, Registrar, NIIFT announced admission details on the occasion. He said, “June 4, 2023, is the last date to apply for admission to the UG/PG courses of NIIFT, an accredited, diverse, and expanding college of Design, Management and Technology, established in 1995. We provide BSc, MSc and MDes degree programs. NIIFT is run by the Department of Industries & Commerce, Punjab.”
Dr Poonam Aggarwal Thakur, Principal, NIIFT Mohali said, “The show featured a curated collection of final-year students, highlighting their exceptional craftsmanship, unique vision, and deep understanding of contemporary fashion. The runway came alive with a fusion of tradition and modernity, as the designers explored diverse themes, infusing them with their personal interpretations.”
The collections presented were breath-taking. Shruti presented a collection of lost heritage of Ukraine, Anshika showcased the botanical print, Keshav Mangal created a collection ‘Immure’ for the LGBTQ community, Hansika Jain brought Romeo and Juliet’s love story to the fore, while Kritika Gupta showcased Kabuki dresses inspired by the Japanese art. Manthan’s creations reminded of the 70’s fashion, Sukriti gave her dresses a touch of Madhubani art, Pamilpreet Kaur’s collection focused on Punjabi maa-boli, Pol Jayshree presented ‘Paithani saree revival’ ensembles with amazing draping techniques. Charvi, Shreya and Nitya Sehgal’s work was also appreciated. All other collections too were awe inspiring and very creative. The students were guided by their mentors, Dr Simrita Singh, Dr Deepti Sharma, Puneet Khokhar, and others.
Students who got the Fashion Design Awards were: Tamanna -Best Design, Shreya Shubhraja - Best Garment Construction, Moksha - Best Commercial Collection, Keshav Mangal -Most Creative Collection, Kritika Gupta -Best Use of Craft, and Sonali Bajpai - Best use of Art. A jury of industry experts selected the award winning collections.
