Mahendergarh, 05.09.24-Professor Chanchal Kumar Sharma, a political scientist and a professor at the Department of Political Science, Central University of Haryana (CUH), Mahendergarh has been selected as the GIGA India Fellow for 2024 by Germany's renowned research institute GIGA. This marks the third time Professor Sharma has received this prestigious award. On this achievement, the Vice-Chancellor of Central University of Haryana, Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar, and Pro Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sushma Yadav, extended their heartfelt congratulations to Professor Sharma, stating that this award is not only a personal accomplishment for him but also a matter of pride for the entire university. They emphasized that his success is a testament to his commitment to research.
They also highlighted that Professor Sharma had previously been honored with the GIGA-INDIA Fellowship in 2017 and 2022. In 2018, he received the Global Partnership Award from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. In 2022, with the support of Germany's Hanns Seidel Foundation, he organized an international conference on behalf of Central University of Haryana, which saw participation from 40 eminent political scientists from 14 countries. In 2023, the University of Freiburg, Germany, invited him for four months to develop an international research project at their research center.
Professor Chanchal Kumar Sharma has contributed significantly to Political Science by developing new theories and concepts such as the Discursive Dominance Theory of Economic Reform Sustainability, Situational Theory of Pork Barrel Politics, Concessionary Federalism, and Vertical Fiscal Asymmetry. His theories have been widely discussed in international academic journals and books. Professor Sharma has delivered lectures at numerous universities around the world, including Brighton, Bristol, Bolzano, Edinburgh, Hamburg, and Freiburg.
