NEW DELHI - 11.10.24-Chief Minister Atishi on Friday announced that Delhi roads will be made pothole-free by Diwali. The development comes in line with the effort to fast track repair works that has been going on under the AAP Government. Chief Minister Atishi also held a review meeting with officials from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) to assess the repair work on the roads under these agencies in Delhi.
The Delhi government is working at war footing to eliminate potholes on the city’s roads. In this regard, the entire Delhi cabinet, along with Chief Minister Atishi, recently inspected the roads managed by the Public Works Department (PWD) in Delhi. During the inspection, it was noted that several roads had been handed over by the PWD to the Delhi Metro and NCRTC, and many of these roads were in a dilapidated condition, requiring urgent repairs.
Consequently, Chief Minister Atishi directed the PWD officials to coordinate with these agencies to ensure the repair of the dilapidated roads under their purview.
During today's review meeting, the officials from DMRC and NCRTC updated Chief Minister Atishi on the progress of the repair work on the roads under their jurisdiction.
The officials from DMRC and NCRTC shared that, over the past week, patchwork and pothole filling on most roads has been completed, and all work related to patching and potholes will be completed within the next two weeks.
In the meeting, Chief Minister Atishi asserted, "As a government, our priority is to provide better roads for the people of Delhi. All agencies are working at war footing to achieve this vision and are improving the city’s roads."
She added, "During our inspection, we found that many roads in Delhi are in a dilapidated condition, causing traffic problems due to potholes."
Chief Minister Atishi commended the collaborative efforts of all agencies to repair the roads and expressed optimism that, under the guidance of Arvind Kejriwal, they would provide pothole-free roads to all Delhi residents by Diwali.
*Repairs Completed under DMRC*

Mehrauli-Badarur Road - This road is extremely important for South Delhi, with densely populated areas like Saket, Sangam Vihar, Tughlakabad Extension, Khanpur, Pushp Vihar, Dakshinpuri, Ambedkar Nagar, and Madangir. Due to ongoing construction of the Metro’s Golden Line, 6.4 km of this road has been handed over to the PWD. The road has been damaged at several points due to the Metro construction and waterlogging during the rains. During the review meeting, DMRC officials reported that the repair work has been completed on a large portion of the road, with work ongoing on another stretch that will be finished by Oct 20.
2. Wazirabad Road - The section of this road from Gokalpuri to Wazirabad Bridge has been handed over to Delhi Metro by the PWD. Many road stretches in Yamuna Vihar and Bhajanpura were severely damaged. Following departmental directives, Metro has commenced repair work on this road, which will be completed by October 15.
3. The road under the Outer Ring Road near Haiderpur Metro Station was also damaged at multiple locations. DMRC has completed patchwork here.
4. Metro construction is also ongoing in Jagatpur. Patchwork and pothole filling are being carried out on the damaged road here and will be completed soon.
5. A section of Malik Ram Tandon Marg is in a dilapidated condition. During the review meeting, CM Atishi directed PWD and DMRC officials to conduct a joint inspection of this road and expedite its repair.
*Repairs completed under NCRTC*

This initiative is part of a broader strategy to extend the reach of the Mohalla bus service to underconnected areas across the city. Earlier, the Delhi government initiated trials of Mohalla buses on several routes, including Pradhan Enclave Pusta to Majlis Park Metro Station, Akshardham Metro Station to Mayur Vihar Phase-III Paper Market, Lok Kalyan Marg to Malviya Nagar Depot, and Kailash Colony Metro Station to PNB Geetanjali.
*Earned Per Kilometer (EPK)*
The Pradhan Enclave Pusta to Majlis Park Metro Station route has been operational for 88 days, serving a total ridership of 17,081, of which 12,249 were pink tickets. The total Earned Per Kilometer (EPK) on this route stands at ₹12.55/km.
On the Lok Kalyan Marg to Malviya Nagar Depot route, operational for 44 days, the total ridership was 4,473, including 2,374 pink tickets, with an EPK of ₹4.90/km.
The Akshardham to Mayur Vihar Phase-III route saw a total ridership of 5,739, including 4,433 Pink tickets with an EPK of 4.06/km. Similarly, the Kailash Colony Metro Station to Geetanjali Malviye Nagar route had a ridership of 11,037, including 6,485 pink tickets, with an EPK of ₹11.54/km.
The Mohalla bus is equipped with six battery packs with a total capacity of 196KW, providing a range of 200+ km with an opportunity charging of 45 minutes. These 9-meter Mohalla buses have 23 passenger seats and a standing capacity of 13 passengers.
The Mohalla buses have been colored green for easy passenger identification. Additionally, 25% of the seats (6 seats) are pink, reserved exclusively for women passengers.
The Mohalla Bus Scheme aims to deploy 9-meter-long electric buses to provide neighborhood or feeder bus services. The Delhi government plans to introduce a total of 2,180 such buses by 2025, catering specifically to areas with limited road width or overcrowding. The Delhi government is currently operating 100 buses acquired from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to enhance last-mile connectivity. A total of 2,080 9-meter buses are being procured by the Delhi Government as part of its mission to go electric and provide smooth last-mile connectivity. These buses will help in boosting first and last-mile connectivity for the people, particularly in areas where standard 12m buses face operational challenges due to their size and turning radius.
*Fare*
Fare in Mohalla Buses will be the same as AC buses of the Delhi Government, i.e., ₹10, ₹15, ₹20, and ₹25. Women can avail free rides on these buses through Pink passes.
