SHIMLA -21 October, 2024-A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) worth around Rs. 70 crore has been signed between Public Works Department (PWD) and Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (SJVNL) for the widening of various road projects in the state.

Public Works Department Minister Vikramaditya Singh today presided over the MoU signing ceremony here today.

The PWD Minister said that the MoU had been signed for the widening of Sunni-Luhri road, MDR-22 (Gharat Nala-Khaira) and Shimla to Mandi road, MDR 76 (Dhali-Devidhar). He said that this MoU was a historic step that would set new milestones in improving the road infrastructure in both rural and urban areas of the state.

Vikramaditya Singh said that the ongoing efforts of the PWD would strengthen the rural connectivity and improve road facilities. He said that during his recent visit to Delhi, with the support of Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, he had urged the Central government to declare five important roads including the Salapad-Tattapani-Sunni-Khaira-Luhri road, as national highways. It would not only benefit the Karsog area but Ani, Kumarsain, Rampur and Kinnaur regions as well. He said that as the road was near the China border which makes it important from strategic point of view also.

Chairman and Managing Director of SJVNL Susheel Kumar gave detailed about the ongoing projects in the Sunni and Luhri areas.

Secretary PWD Abhishek Jain and other senior officers of the PWD and SJVNL were present on the occasion.
