Punjab Women Commission issues notice to Charanjit Singh Channi for making indecent and derogatory remarks towards women

Chandigarh, November 18:The Punjab State Women Commission, exercising its powers under Section 10 of the Punjab State Women Commission Act, 2001, has taken suo moto cognizance and issued a notice to former Punjab Chief Minister and current Lok Sabha member Charanjit Singh Channi. The notice pertains to allegations of making vulgar and derogatory remarks about women while addressing an election rally in Gidderbaha constituency.

The Commission, exercising its powers regarding cases related to the violation of women rights, dignity, and security, has summoned Charanjit Singh Channi to appear in person on November 19, 2024, at 11:00 am at the Punjab State Women Commission office located at SCO No. 5, 1st Floor, Phase-1, SAS Nagar (Mohali). He has been asked to provide a detailed explanation regarding the allegations.

Chandigarh, November 18:The Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab Sibin C has announced that all preparations for the bye-elections for the 4 Punjab Assembly seats have been completed to ensure free, fair, and transparent elections.

Sharing the information, CEO Sibin C stated that 6,481 Punjab Police personnel’s and officials along with 17 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) have been deployed to ensure safe and peaceful elections. Additionally, 3868 polling staff has been assigned duties for the smooth management of the polling process.

The CEO mentioned that 10-Dera Baba Nanak constituency has 193,376 voters, with 241 polling stations in total, out of which 61 are critical polling stations and 701 polling staff members are deployed. As of now, 19 complaints regarding violations of the election code have been received, out of which 17 complaints have been resolved. During this period, ₹25.40 crore has been seized as per the guidelines of Election Commission. The counting of votes for the 10-Dera Baba Nanak constituency will take place in 18 rounds on November 23rd at Sukhjinder Group of Institutes, Engineering Wing, Hardochhanni Road, Gurdaspur.

44-Chabbewal (SC) constituency has 159,432 voters, with 205 polling stations in total, and 50 critical polling stations and a total of 1044 staff members are deployed here. Further 35 complaints regarding violations of the election code have been received, out of which 30 complaints have been resolved. During this period, ₹60,000 has been seized by district administration. The vote counting for 44-Chabbewal (SC) will take place in 15 rounds at Rayat & Bahra Group of Institutes, Chandigarh Road, Hoshiarpur.

Furthermore, 84-Gidderbaha has 166,731 voters, with 173 polling stations, of which 96 are critical and a total of 1,148 staff members are working here. During the moral code of conduct 24 complaints related to election code violations have been received, out of which 11 complaints have been resolved and ₹4.70 lakh has been seized. The vote counting for 84-Gidderbaha will be held in 13 rounds at Government Senior Secondary School (Boys) Bharu Road, Gidderbaha.

While 103-Barnala constituency has 177,426 voters, and 212 polling stations, with 37 being critical and 975 polling staff has been deployed. Since the implementation of moral code of conduct 7 complaints regarding violations have been received out of which 5 complaints have been resolved and a total of ₹55.50 lakh has been seized. The counting of votes for 103-Barnala will take place in 16 rounds at S.D. College of Education, Barnala.

Sibin C further stated that all polling stations will be monitored through CCTV cameras and to ensure real-time monitoring 100% live webcasting will be provided for all polling stations, as instructed by the Election Commission of India.

The Chief Electoral Officer also mentioned that adequate arrangements for food, accommodation, and protection from the cold has been made for the polling staff at the stations. Furthermore, provisions have been made for drinking water, waiting areas, toilets, and other facilities for voters at polling stations.

Sibin C stated that the polling is scheduled for November 20th (Wednesday) from 7 AM to 6 PM, with the counting of votes on November 23rd (Saturday). He appealed to all voters in the four constituencies to exercise their right to vote without any fear and inducement.

BOCW Board organizes camps at labour chowks across 19 districts in Punjab

- Construction workers must register with the Board to avail benefits: Sond

Chandigarh, November 18:The Punjab Building and Other Construction Workers' Welfare Board organized camps at labour chowks across 19 Districts in Punjab (where the Model Code of Conduct is not enforced). This initiative was undertaken following directions issued by the Labour Minister, Tarunpreet Singh Sond, in a review meeting held on last week of October 2024.

Divulging the details, a spokesperson said that, to register maximum construction workers, Board officials have organized these camps at labour chowks from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM. These camps will continue from 18 to 23 November, 2024. In those Districts where Model Code of Conduct is currently enforced, the camps will be organized from 25 to 29 November. The officials also generated awareness about the Board's welfare schemes and their financial benefits.

The Labour Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond stated that the B.O.C.W. Welfare Board offers benefits under various schemes, including the Stipend Scheme, Shagun Scheme, General Surgery Scheme, Pension Scheme, Maternity Scheme etc. However, he emphasized that construction workers must register with the Board to avail these benefits.

The Labour Minister stated that any construction worker (aged between 18-60 years) who has worked for at least 90 days in Punjab during the preceding year is eligible to register with the Board. He appealed all construction workers, working in the state of Punjab, to register themselves with the B.O.C.W. Welfare Board and avail benefits of the schemes run by the Board.

CHANDIGARH, November 18:Amidst the ongoing drive to make Punjab Cyber safe and secure state, Punjab Police’s Cybercrime Division has busted an inter-state gang involved in Digital Arrest Cyber Fraud with the arrest of two Assam-based persons for their involvement in this fraud, said Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav here on Monday.

Those arrested have been identified as Najrul Ali and Midul Ali, both residents of Kamrup in Assam.

Digital Arrest refers to a cyber scam where fraudsters, posing as law enforcement officials, deceive victims into believing they have committed a serious crime and must stay visible online until their demands are met, exploiting fear to extort money.

As per the information, a 76-years-old retired Government officer lodged a complaint with the State Cybercrime Division that some people claiming to be from the Mumbai Cyber Crime had duped him of Rs 76 lakhs by putting him under Digital Arrest via WhatsApp call. The caller accused the victim of conniving with a criminal indulged in money laundering and also claimed that subpoena had been issued on his name by the Bombay High court. The fraud caller impersonating as police official from Mumbai Cybercrime gave him account numbers from different banks and directed him to deposit money in the said banks to clear him of the charges. As directed, the victim deposited Rs 76 Lakhs in different bank accounts.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that following the complaint, the State Cyber Crime Division immediately registered a first information report (FIR) and started investigations into this case.

He said that investigation has revealed the interstate linkages of the arrested accused in other cyber frauds as the bank account belonging to the arrested accused suggested their involvement in at least 11 other Cyber fraud cases spread across seven states in which around Rs 15 crores have been scammed from the victims.

The DGP said that during the investigation, information obtained regarding Banks accounts , WhatsApp accounts, and mobile numbers of the cyber fraudsters revealed that the gang has been running their operation from the remote districts of Assam. The investigation of IP Logs provided by WhatsApp and Skype also revealed that these fake threat calls originated from Cambodia and Hong Kong, he added.

Sharing operation details, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Cybercrime Division V Neeraja said that a team from Police Station State Cyber Crime, Punjab headed by Inspector Jujhar Singh went to Assam last week and arrested both the accused persons from Kamrup district of Assam.

She said that accused Najrul Ali was owner of the ‘current bank account’ used to siphon off the money at layer one, and Midul Ali had assisted him in opening of Bank account by providing his documents.

Both the accused persons have been brought to Mohali on transit remand for interrogation in this case, she said, while adding that more arrests are likely in coming days.

The ADGP said that summons have also been also been issued to the bank officials, who assisted in opening the current account of the accused. Details are being shared with other States on the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C) portal, she added.

Meanwhile, a case FIR no. 25 dated 24.09.2024 had been registered under sections 308(2), 318(4), 319(2) and 61(2) of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and sections 66(C) and 66(D) of Information Technology (IT) Act at Police Station State Cyber Crime in SAS Nagar.

• Do not panic if a call is received from anyone claiming to be from a Law enforcement agency alleging involvement in a crime.

• Report on sancharsaathi.gov.in to block the mobile number and report at the local Cyber Crime Police Station.

• Never share bank details or Aadhar card number with any caller.

• Do not answer questions asked by unknown callers.

• Report fraud calls and block the number on Chakshu portal of DoT on URL sancharsaathi.gov.in.
